So better than celebrating a Beagle win, you'd rather another cartoon about how dumb Bush is, how evil Cheney is, how cowardly the Democrats are, how hypocritical McCain is, how desperate Clinton is, and how "inspirational" Obama is?
Why shouldn't a cartoonist wish to comment on a fun historical moment rather than the dire happenings or every day. If I were to take a sampling of editorial cartoonists whose blog we're posting in, I think I'd find 100% of them were inspired by Schultz and Snoopy, so getting an excuse to draw a celebrating Snoopy seems like an obvious thing.
But again, everyday is Bush Scandals, politcal corruption, baseball steroids...you begrudge a happy story? It's not important to you, but how many cartoonists did strips based on the Giants winning the Superbowl? I have a friend who has a champion foxhound and does the shows and stuff, and it's important to her. As a beagle booster, I think it's neat.
And I'm not sure I buy the too many people doing Snoopy jokes issue. 1) there's no such thing as too much Snoopy.
2) Underdog isn't widely known as a beagle, Enterprise wasn't succsful enough to make Porthos a household dog, and while my dog is famous amgonst the writers of Pocket Books Trek books, that's hardly a good demographic to target. But anyone opening a newspaper will recognize Snoopy.
3) Only two of them duplicate...with Snoopy Dancing. So out of the 5, you have 2 Snoopy Dances, 1 Snoopy reading the paper, 1 WWI Flying Ace, and 1 Joe Cool.
