Captive - Part 2

Atol and Cerdic entered the camp to the jovial calls of their hunting mates. Atol had the feral beauty slung over his shoulder, his hand firmly placed at the back of her knees to keep her from kicking. He had learned in the journey that she would, indeed, kick. And hard. She twisted and squirmed in an attempt to see what faced Atol. Whatever it was, she didn't much like the sound. He stilled her with a slap to her rump, which caused a startled cry..and a round of laughter from the men.
Before too long, she'd been tossed into a cage. Atol dragged her to the edge and cut the rope from her wrists.
"'Ere ye are, girlie. Ya can figger the rest out on yer own." He smirked at her, making sure to meet her gaze directly before walking off. She sighed and rubbed her wrists, the rope had left deep, red marks upon the soft skin. She scooted to the back of the cage, determined to keep out of reach. Several men had already come over to take a look at her, and made comments about the auction. She watched them intently, though she couldn't understand a word they were saying. The smell of rabbit on the spit wafted to her, and her belly started rumbling. She scowled, these dogs had stolen her dinner. Her fingers worked blindly at the knots that held her ankles. She was unwilling, even for a moment, to take her gaze from the men in camp.
The sun had just set for the evening when Atol finally snagged a bite of the rabbit and went to sit next to Cerdic near the wagon. The deer that Cerdic brought had been handed over to the men to skin and butcher. Atol checked on the girl in the cage and chuckled to himself.
"The Lord will like her. We'll bring her to the auction for the nobles..they like breakin' girlies like her." He nodded to himself.
"Aye. She's a li'l spitfire, she is" Cerdic agreed between bites of rabbit.
"Two days back...ya think she'll servive it? The men haven't seen a woman in a few days.." He grinned.
"Aye, but they know better. She'll be worth less if they have their way 'ith her." Cerdic nodded to himself, confirming his own words. "Besides, I bet she'd give them a run."
Atol laughed. "Aye, I bet she would." He looked back at the girl and tossed her a scrap of meat. It landed close to the bars and she eyed him suspiciously. "Well, c'mon girlie, gotta eat to keep up the strength"
She merely lifted her eyes to gaze at him, a twist of her lips clearly portrayed her disgust with him. When his back was turned, however, she darted for the meat. Her belly rumbled, and she couldn't ignore the hunger. He reached to grab for her, but missed. She let out a hiss and glared at him as she scuttled to the back of the cage once again.
This only succeeded in gaining her laughter. Atol stood and tossed another scrap of meat in the cage. He looked down to Cerdic.
"We should stand guard. Ya never know what the men might do.."
Cerdic nodded his agreement. With another bite of food, he replied "I'll take first watch. We leave shortly after sunrise."
"Aye. I'll relieve ye in four hours" Atol nodded his goodnight and left for his tent.
