Hermione tried to ignore the warning signs, but really it's very difficult to block out the sound of a huge red steam train as it prepares to leave the station.
Just another minute, she thought, I'm not ready yet.
"Hermione!" she heard Ginny shout. "Enough, we have to leave!"
Ginny's words had the same effect on Hermione as Harry's had had all those months ago when Hermione clung to Ron: they only made her hold on tighter.
"She's right," Ron whispered in her ear, his voice oddly strained and hoarse. "It's time."
"No," Hermione whinged, seconds away from stomping her foot like a petulant child.
"It's not forever, love. We'll be together soon," Ron reminded her. She almost laughed at Ron being the voice of reason. Almost.
The strong arms that had been wrapped tightly around her slowly eased their grip and peeled her away from the warmth of Ron's body. Hermione's knees instantly felt weak at the tears swimming in Ron's bright blue eyes.
Taking strength from his reassuring smile, Hermione nodded and slowly stepped backwards toward the train, her body still tingling from the love in Ron's farewell embrace.
