Your heart beats in monotone

Since school has started, my relationship with a few people has changed. I'm growing more and more distant with some, and closer and closer with others. I share secrets and spend time with those I never imagined being friends with. Why is all of this happening? It's happening because I'm changing. I'm going through a lot right now, and I'm seeing people's true colors for once. I know who has a positive impact on my life, and who has a negative impact on my life. I see who I like being around, and who I dislike being around. I'm losing people that I have been friends with for five years, and meeting people I have known for only a few months.

The weird thing is, it doesn't feel like I've known these people for only a few months. It feels like we've been close for years and years, and that we have already have a strong relationship. It's weird how things work sometimes. Those that I'm just now getting close to make me happy. When I'm around these people, I laugh until my cheeks hurt--Until tears are streaming down my face, because I was laughing so hard. We don't have deep discussions about what scares us, and why we sometimes feel like life is an emotional roller coaster. And I like it like that. That's what makes our relationships so..unique. So fun.

And then, there are those that I have known for a few years now. Everything seems to have changed over the summer: We aren't close anymore. I don't talk to them much anymore, if I even talk to them at all. To be honest, I don't want to talk to them. I came to realize how meaningless our relationships were; How depressing our relationships were. I realized how high-maintenence some of these relationships really were. And, with everything that I'm going through, high-maintenence is the last thing that I need. Drama is the last thing that I need, and that seemed to be the foundation of many relationships. I came to realize how whiny some of my friends were. I came to realize how childish some of my friends were--Too childish. I came to realize how mature some of my friends were--Too mature.

I like meeting new people everyday. I like joking around with friends in class, and just having a good time. I began to feel that some of my friends were holding me back from having a good time, therefore I had to let go of them. I had to let go of them, and the tiny relationship that we still had. And it feels nice, having let go.
