I went to Bamboozle Chicago Left on Saturday and I thought I'd do a little review. It was my first time going to Bamboozle and it was also Bamboozle's first time in Chicago. It was one of the smaller Bamboozles so there weren't a ton of bands, but the main reason I went is to see the Something Corporate reunion. Something Corporate was a pop punk band that went on hiatus in 2005, but they are having a reunion where they played 3 dates at Bamboozle (and they just announced a nationwide tour). Though I like Jack's Mannequin (the lead singer's, Andrew McMahon, newer band), I was happy to get to see Something Corporate because I usually prefer them.
Photo credit. The festival started at 2:30, but I didn't get there until around 7:00. To be honest, the rest of the lineup for Bamboozle was pretty disappointing. There were a bunch of bands I wasn't interested in or hadn't heard of.
Treaty of Paris was playing on the smaller stage when I came. I didn't go over there to check it out, but they sounded pretty good. Cobra Starship was the first band I saw. I like Midtown (Gabe's old band) and I've listened to some Cobra Starship albums, but I can't really get in to them. Some of their songs are fun ("Guilty Pleasure" and "Good Girls Go Bad" were fun to hear live), but I don't really like them overall. They put on a pretty good show though (if you're in to their music).
I saw Allister next, which was a band I hadn't heard of, but I thought I might like. The band was formed in 1996 and took a hiatus in 2007. They're back together and have a new album being released this summer. They have a pop punk sound and I thought they sounded really good. I'm going to check out more by them.
Something Corporate was next, which was really exciting. They played a long setlist and I think they played some of their best songs. Here's the full setlist:
Punk Rock Princess
The Astronaut
21 and Invincible
Down
I Want To Save You
She Paints Me Blue
Space
Cavanaugh Park
Watch The Sky
Me and the Moon
Fall
Ruthless
I Woke Up In A Car
If You C Jordan
Konstantine
Hurricane
I like that they opened with "Punk Rock Princess" because that was the first song I ever heard by them. I was really happy to hear "Cavanaugh Park" and "Watch the Sky" because those are songs I wouldn't really expect them to play and some of my favorites by them. I only wish they also played "Walking By".
The highlight was hearing "Konstantine". People always want to hear that song because it's a fan favorite, but Andrew said he wouldn't play it live unless it was at a Something Corporate show. They left the stage and played it during their encore. I decided not to take a video of it because I wanted to enjoy the moment fully without worrying about recording/getting photos, but here's a good video of it:

Overall, it was really fun. It made me want to go to more festivals. Even though the lineup was kind of disappointing for Bamboozle, I'm really happy I go to see Something Corporate. Anybody else go to Bamboozle this year (at any location)?
