yeah, i got my all-state scores back... a couple of things i have to say:
1) i was really really close
2) just by looking at it you would have thought i had got in.
3) the judge messed up = (
Well, i'll start with sightreading and scales...
Scales 25/25
Sightreading 35/40
Tone - 5/5
Intonation - 5/5
Melodic Accuracy - 5/5
Rhythmic Accuracy- 4/5
Tempo- 4/5
Interpretation 4/5
Technique/Articulation 8/10
The piece was a different story... and the weird thing is, i did not get a significantly bad score for each category (maybe except tone and intonation)... i did average to excellent in most areas
Tone- 6/10 now THAT is really weird.... i have a really superb tone (i'm not trying to brag, but it is the truth) and for the judge to give me a 6 was completely hanus. of course, i did have several flaws during the production, i'm not going to lie, it was a little shitty in some spots because i was nervous.. but still, i think i should have gotten an 8 at least
Intonation - 7/10 yeah, that sounds about right... perhaps an 8, but no more than that.
Melodic Accuracy - 10/10 nice
Rhythmic Accuracy- 10/10 wtf? i have horrible rhythms! ask mrs. stiner!
Tempo- 10/10 okay, now this is really weird...
Left Hand Technique- (it wasn't bad, but i could have used more points)
proper shifting technique- ? the judge left it blank! and i'm pretty sure she forgot to write a score in because she marked all the other categories!! >=(
3/5 - the student sometimes demonstrates proper use of vibrato
3/5 the student sometimes demonstrates proper left hand facility
Right Hand technique-
5/5 - the student consistently demonstrates appropriate slurs as marked
3/5 - the student sometimes demonstrates appropriate execution of the legato, staccato, marcato, and spiccato articulation
5/5 - the student consistently demonstrate appropriate use of bow length and speed.
Musicianship- (i wouldn't say killed it me, but then i would)
3/5- the student sometimes demonstrates control of musical time and pulse appropriate for the style of music (i.e., use of steady beat, and/or use of rubato, ritardando, stringendo)
3/5- the student sometimes demonstrates dynamic contrast notated by composer.
5/5- the student consistently demonstrates the ability to shape and contour melodic line; dynamic nuance not notated by composer
3/5- the student sometimes demonstrates a high level of expressiveness through the appropriate involvement, intensity and dramatic presentation of literature.
3/5- the student sometimes performs with effective bow management, strokes that compliment the phrase structure.
all in all, i got a 138... however, the judge did not add my musicianship score up right... 3, 5, 3, 3, and 3 does not make 16. it makes 17. so then it's a 139 instead of 138. another thing: the judge forgot to give me points for my shifting technique! that could have been easily 3 or 5 points. so then i could have had a 142 or 144 instead of a 139. the all-state cut off was a 145.... i don't want to sound like i'm justifying my rejection... but take this into consideration: if i had gotten a 144, i might have got accepted. usually the all-state cut off begins when there's a huge gap between students that had high and low scores. *sigh*
