District festival was today... meh, some of it was really crappy, other parts were okay...
first of all, we got there late... because mrs. newton couldn't find the bus and then we were trying to figure out how to fit two basses into the handicapped bus... which, mind you, the bus driver kept referring to as "cellos". it was kind of funny. i guess you have to be a string player to understand.
the festival was in duxbury.. took us like an hour to get there...
when we finally got there, we walked into the room where the orchestra was about to rehearse and everybody was sitting there.. it was awkward. and then the seating arrangement was really strange so my seat wasn't where i expected it to be.. and then i was racing to get my instrument out so i could be there in time to tune.. but when we began to tune i realized i had forgotten my shoulder rest and i raced back to my case to get it, and by the time i got back to my seat, they were done tuning....jeez.... what a start. and, to make matters worse... mr. raney (our conductor) got pissed real fast because our brass section sucks and he's not used to conducting such a large orchestra (he normally conducts a small semi-professional chamber orchestra)
but guess what? my stand partner is asian. too bad she's ugly. she's one of those people who maintains an angry silence. (doesn't talk, stares off into space, slouches, etc.)<--- very creepy
the hoedown is awesome... i think that's our best piece... procession of the nobles is way too fast and frantic (and we're rushing), i can't get the damn notes off the string (a result of poor articulation on my part), dvorak's slavonic dance is good (except our intonation sucks) and it's every man for himself on overture to candide...
i don't want to say it was a waste of the day.. but now i'm kind of bitter that after the concert tomorrow i'm going to be left having to do homework from thursday night and friday ( =( wahhhh!!!!! )
