All Things New

It’s been a month since I wrote a post? sad. tsk.

Well, I made it back from Panama in one piece, can’t say the same for my gear unfortunately. The drumset took a bit of a beating. Good thing it’s not mine! I managed to get all my electronics back safely though. It was an interesting trip. First of all, we were in a 5 star hotel, a LEGITIMATE 5 star hotel, complete with wireless internet access, a 2 tiered pool with a waterfall, a bar, and all you can eat buffet food. So, for one, it was really awkward going out to these little churches and communities that were literally rubbing sticks together, and we go back to A/C and swimming pools. And then, we got monsoon’d on. At it’s high point, we blew the sound system, the generator was under water, and we had about 8 inches of standing water in less than a half hour. In all though, it was a great trip. I’m still backlogged with 4.5 GB of pictures that i’ve been slowly sorting through.

Other exciting news: We’re moving. The aforementioned house came open the week I was gone in Panama, so we’ve been boxing stuff up and sorting (and tossing) stuff as we go. This week is the final deal though, the big push comes on friday when the fam’ and the ‘rents come to help us move the big stuff, bed, dresser, etc, and that’ll be that. I’ll have to start mowing the lawn and weeding, and all that lovely stuff that I miss from childhood. ha! Actually, i’m planning on building a raised garden and doing some berries and vegetables and stuff. Always wanted to do a bit of farming. I’m particularly excited about getting some studio space back. i’ve been gathering my gear and planning on how to lay it out so that I can duck in and start laying down tracks again.

On the music front, the band i’m playing in just voted to "let go" one of the guitarists. It’s been something that’s been coming I think, and it’s not because he’s a bad person or anything, it’s just that he’s got some timing issues that’s really throwing people off, and defeating our rhythmic lock. He’s got a great heart, and he has his shining moments, but I think where we’re going we needed (and asked) him to step up a bit and I don’t think he could. At least, not in the time frame that we need him to. I think he would be more frustrated than anything. So, tonight we have a new guitar player trying out, and it’s someone that I know personally and he’s really excited about joining us. This band is a funny beast., the way we operate. The running joke is that i’m in charge, and that everyone else just chmes in. haha. Anyway. Our anniversary is next week too, 8 years woohoo!. My mom’s here from AK and so we’re going to spend some time with her on the beach.

OK, back to work.
