Some of you will have followed my exploration of Fuenllana's fantasias and tientos on my website. It has been an interesting journey for me, to say the least, and I feel I now know a lot more about both Fuenllana and the vihuela. However, now that I have completed the 13 fantasias from Book 4, and all the tientos from Book 6, I feel I have not done the pieces the justice they deserve. MP3 files are OK for hearing on poor computer speakers, but they cannot compare to being recording with expensive microphones in a good acoustic. So...
I have decided to take the files off of my website. I will use them as a demo to hand out to record companies. Hopefully one will take it on. I hope to accompany it with an academic essay by one of the leading vihuela authorities, and photos of instruments/organological study, etc.
I will keep all the other files on the website and add more to them over time. I still think MP3 files are a great way to share repertoire and performances to like-minded people, but these pieces by Fuenllana warrant the best recording I can give them - both aurally and in my own playing. I feel my understanding of Fuenllana's particular voice grew as the project developed, and I would now like to re-record the pieces anyway.

PS Our house now has a digital video camera, so expect a few vihuela performances in video form online in the future.
