Had a good evening with members of the Edinburgh Hellenic Society playing traditional Greek music - something I have never done before. I was surprised and pleased that they didn't object to my playing a Turkish oud! It was not a concert, just an in-house party. It is something I hope to find time to do once a month or so. Very interesting music. The others played clarinet, bouzouki, lyra (a treble-viol-type instrument), a metal-strung lauto, and, surprisingly, a dobro!

Although I haven't yet started my post as Musician In Residence to Queen Margaret University College, I have been discovering some hidden talent there. One Italian guy plays solo electric guitar recitals in the Steve-Vai/ Joe Satriani mode. One girl is fluent in ancient Greek, and dances too. And another girl recites Icelandic sagas! This is going to be a very interesting job!!
