I just tonight got back from the MENC (music educators national conference) North Eastern Division Biennial convention in Hartford CT. That means that all the music teachers in the north east part of the country all got together to learn/teach/talk about teaching music. I enjoyed it a lot. Surprisingly I learned more about myself than about music education on this trip. A lot of what I learned about me can has to do with music and education, but mostly I took what I learned and applied it to me because I don't have any students yet. I hope most of what I learned I'll be able to transfer over to students once I start teaching. These conventions are great experiences and I'm really glad I got the chance to go and I will most definitely go to the next one in the Northeast. There was this once presenter that was just fabulous. He specialized in early childhood music education and I thought he was brilliant. He had great ideas and theories and wonderful ways to create and encourage young children to be musical. I don't think that every student in school has to be in band or chorus but I think it is important for children to have love, respect and an understanding of music. I don't think a lot of children have that today. Music is great, LOVE IT!
And that's that. Nothing else new. Turn your clocks forward!
