I made a big move today in jazz class. Usually I use the scales that are written out and try to use those notes to solo with. But instead of doing that, I just looked at the chord names and tried to do it that way. It wasn't a total flop, just my normal crazy ramblings that don't ammount to much. So we'll see how that goes.
Now I don't usually do this but I am going to rant. Today in Intro to Music Ed we talked about how sometimes a teacher can get certified if they get a 'transcript annalis' and they take a few classes and get certified to teach music with out going through everything. I see a lot of problems with that: 1) Do we really want people teaching our children how to play the trumpet when they've never held a trumpet before? Or someone teaching band if they have never taken a conducting class? I thought not. 2) What does that mean for the rest of us? It seems like such a cop-out from my stand point, where I out in 60 hour weeks to get my diploma in 4 years and sone one can come in take a few extra classes and be certified. 3) If they don't go through EVERYTHING how are they going to be confident about themselves? Yea so that's how I feel. Now most of you who know me know I don't generally make a big deal about all the work I do but lately it seems like I've been doing a lot more work than last year. I have class from either 8-2 or 10-2 then a two hour break (where I usually eat lunch or do home work) and I have to go to band or another class or work (accept tuesdays) at 4 and then I eat dinner and do home work until 9 and then I practice until about 11ish, more or less depending on what I have to work on. It doesn't seem like I did this much last year. I was probablly just spreading it out differently, I practiced more in the afternoon, but I don't like practicing while people are around so I go at night when only the janitor is there. So I don't have much sympathy for people who have 15 credits and then bitch about how busy they are or how much home work they have. I like being busy though, if I wasn't busy I would get very bored and not enjoy myself. I like doing a lot, it's what I do. I just hope I can keep it up for the rest of my life. Because that's probablly what's going to have to happen. Though I'm sure it gets better. So if you are really busy this week or day I'll totally listen to you but I won't feel bad because I probablly know at least 15 people who put in weeks far more busy than yours on a regular basis, and love it.
