My desert tortoise evidently isn't too bright. She's scared of thunderstorms, and yet she doesn't know to get to her shelter on the porch (the driest place) when it's raining. I checked on her a few times yesterday, and she was in the shelter... until it started raining. After running around the backyard, I found her on the other side of the backyard, looking totally overwhelmed/scared. She was happy when I put her on the porch, but still wouldn't go into her shelter. She waited by the door for me to open so she could climb inside. Not bright enough to go to the dry place outside, but bright enough to know to come inside the house. I'm afraid it will storm some day while I'm gone and I'll find her outside drowned in a puddle or something. Crazy tortoise.
I love monsoon season. The weather recently has been amazing. I rediscovered our backyard, and have been sitting outside reading and drinking tea while it storms. I read Deathly Hallows and The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (why didn't I discover that book before? dry, British humor=amazing) that way. I played with the idea of bringing my laptop out there, but computer + storm = generally not a good idea.
