My cold is going away. This, in part, is due to Suz's kick ass "Mommy Mode." She's sicker then I'll ever be, but she's fretting over my cold and handing out the drugs and vitamins. Isn't that sweet? High fives for my girl. I really pray that they (being the doctors) find out what's all wrong with her. With the newest addition to her LIVER GOING CRAZY, I'm scared to death. Never mind all the crap she's going through with her job - When I signed the paperwork, I was guaranteed a fully functioning fag-hag. Right now we're writing down all the "yellow" jokes we can find, since that's the color she'll begin turning if her liver goes wonky.
In more news - I need help with my VAN.
Last Friday, my serpentine belt ka-snapped as I was driving to Fest. Thankfully, it was 3 1/2 miles away from Suz & Ang's house, so the tow was only $85. I was driving along, listening to U2's "Beautiful Day" (of course) when I heard a loud POP from behind the dashboard. So, I pulled over and turned the vehicle off. After waiting for 2 minutes for my body to stop shaking, I started her back up. It was running, albeit with less "resistance", as there was no belt attached. At this point, I still was unsure as to what snapped. I truthfully forgot that my vehicle HAS a serpentine belt, so when I was testing the vehicle and my steering wheel was stiff, my first thought was, "Oh. Power steering belt." After a minute or so, steam suddenly appeared everywhere, so I immediately shut it off again. Lot's of radiator juice came out, which was expected with no fan. At this point, I called myself a dumbass, as I remembered that YES, I do in fact have a serpentine belt. I was watching my levels, so I don't think anything but the radiator overheated, and I'm sure that most of the steam came from the "pressure drain tube thingy" on the side of the radiator. At least, that's what I'm currently praying for, to any higher power that's listening at the moment.
After Festival, I checked my vehicle in the daylight, where I confirmed the belts demise. It didn't snap entirely, it stripped on the sides. It was old. So, I went out and bought a new belt. After studying belt replacement on-line, I came to the slow realization that I won't be able to do this by myself. It's amazing to me that I know the entire innards of computers, and I can fix MANY many things, but auto repair still scares the crap outta me.
So, my '87 Ford Econoline-150 Conversion Van is parked at Suz & Ang's up here in Mounds View. I don't want to spend MORE money to have it towed to a local garage to have the thing fixed. $85 for tow plus $35 for belt equals going over my budget. I already bought the higher-end replacement belt (Goodyear Gatorback 4061000 6PK2540) and all I can do is stare at it longingly.
If ANYONE knows how to replace a belt, or anyone KNOWS anyone etc, PLEASE let me know. I'll buy booze & pizza, we'll have a "Salems Van Lot" party or something.
I will be at Festival Friday tomorrow, as it'll be the only time this year where I can spend the day doing the street performance thing, without any Dreg shows or Vil. I will miss these things for the day, but it will be interesting to NOT have that safety bubble, as it will force me to go out and try new things. So - Everyone have a great weekend, and FestFolk - Have a KICK ASS LAST WEEKEND.
