a "quick" update about last week
well the first week of camp went well. for the most part the kids are great. we started the 2nd session on monday and i get to see alison all this week....but anyway, that is not the point of my entry.
for those of you that don't know (which is the majority of you) my sister almost died last week. what a way to begin the entry, right? well it's true. kayla (my sister) has been doing allergy shots this summer so that her allergies will improve. she is allergic to practically everything!! she is given allergens (the things she is allergic to) through a shot. each time she has come home from her shots, the reactions on her arms have been getting worse and worse. anyway, so last monday kayla went to go get her shot and each time she goes the dosage for the allergens goes up. so she got her 3 shots and then went to go sit in the waiting room for 20 minutes so that she is there if anything goes wrong. well, after a few minutes kayla started to feel hot and she asked my mom if her face was red...which it was. my mom didn't think anything of it, but she went to go get a wet paper towel to help her. one of the secretaries saw my mom and asked if anything was wrong. so my mom explained to her that kayla wasn't feel very well. the secretary shot up out of her seat, looked at kayla, screamed out "OMG!!" and ran to go get our doctor. our doctor then looked out the door, dropped the stuff in his hands, left his patient and ran over to kayla. he was asking her if she was ok and that she had to go with him. so he took kayla in the back room and had her lay down. i guess right after she laid down, her hearing started going and she felt her airway closing. so our doctor gave her epinephrine (not an epipen) because kayla was going into anaphylactic shock. after he gave her the shot she was wheezing and such...but she was alive. so i didn't find this out until my mom called me and told me that she almost died. it was so scary and i wasn't ready for everyone to know until now. for those of you who don't know, kayla and i are VERY close...and i don't know what i would do if i ever lost her. anyway, she went to the doctor yesterday and she is not allowed to continue with her allergy shots. so now she is going to have to suffer through her allergies like she has for years.
