mama we're all crazy now

Ugh. Sometimes, having knowledge of a broad range of music is incredibly frustrating, let me tell you.

So, last night was swing dancing night over at this bar in St. Joseph. Leah had told me about it at work last week, so I figured I'd go check it out. She said they were playing country music, and that she didn't have any so I burned her a CD of swing music from my own collection. I put a bunch of Brian Setzer, "Go Daddy-O", "Zoot Suit Riot", "In the Mood" and some other more obscure songs on it, and I threw in a few Aerosmith ones that work too like "Big Ten Inch Record" and "Shame Shame Shame". 21 songs--that's over an hour of jazzy-swing goodness. So I get over there after work last night, and man, it was like that scene in the Blues Brothers, where they go to that country bar and they ask the bartender, what kind of music do you play here? and they say "we have both kinds--country AND western!" *facepalm* Well, Leah liked the CD but apparently the DJ there didn't. I guess he was all like well, I don't know the songs, I'll have to go through it first. Which ended up being the first two or three songs on it, then the beginning of maybe two or three more, and after that he pretty much refused to play anything other than cuntry (deliberate misspelling FTW). >:|

There's only one macro that works here:

I did manage to dance to a couple of songs with the guy who was teaching everyone else first though, which was pretty good, since I already had a half-assed idea of what I was doing in the first place. But I only stayed for about an hour.

Ugh, can I just get on a ship and get out of here already?! People around here just don't get it. And I hate cowboys. Just cuz I grew up in the country doesn't mean I like that culture or the music. >:|

And on another note, now they decided that we should all wear black bottoms and white shirts for our band concerts, instead of women wearing all black. Which means I need to go find a dressy white shirt by Monday. Great. *grumble grumble* And once again we didn't get through all the music Monday night at rehearsal. X( The good news is they decided to offer the conductor job to the one guy, which means no more Mel! But I haven't met this guy yet, and they said his experience was with conducting middle school band, but he's working on his Masters and eventually a Doctorate in conducting, so I have no idea what he's going to be like either. Oh boy.

wtf, band, rant, fail, pissed off
