You know things are fucked when I'm actually seriously considering going back to working at Menards again. 😑
I'm still not getting many cake orders. I blame the economy and corporate price gouging inflation, but people still want to order shit for the next day or stuff with copyrighted characters (both a hard NO). I'm not going to quit, but I need SOME reliable income. The transcripts have basically dried up to nothing; they outsourced and started using AI for most of them (while charging customers more ofc), and what's left is garbage audio quality and low pay so I just haven't been bothering lately. I'm still trying to do streaming too, but it's going to be a long hard slog to reach affiliate. Only in America can one have THREE jobs and still not make any money.
I applied for an instrument repair job at Groth Music, which is walking distance from us, but haven't heard back. The job has been posted since November and it didn't say how much it pays, so I suspect it's fake. They also got half a million in PPP loans forgiven, so yeah. Last week I interviewed with EnviroTech/Buttweiler for an evening cleaning job at a clinic, but I get the impression it's one of those jobs where you aren't ever allowed to be sick or have any sort of emergency, so if I don't hear back it's whatever. (My first interview via Zoom; at least I already had a webcam so I didn't have to go buy anything for it.)
That pretty much leaves Menards. It's only a block walk, across Nicollett from us. Being walking distance from work is almost as good as working from home, right? I only need like ~15 hours/week, maybe 3 days a week, so maybe it wouldn't be so bad. From what I remember the closing shifts weren't THAT bad usually; it wasn't as busy anyway. We've been in there enough that it seems like maybe some things have changed for the better since 2007. Like they don't ask everyone if you want to use the BIG card any more. And they always seem to have enough people working that it's easy to find help. I've been lurking r/Menards a little to see what bullshit I can expect to look forward too. The usual union-busting bullshit it seems, but people were saying part-timers don't get many hours. Maybe if I'm lucky I can get into garden center too. At the very least it would get me some exercise and social interaction, for better or worse. I don't expect cake orders to pick up any time soon; I have one order for wedding cupcakes in June, but that's it right now. I can stream whenever I feel like, so working at Menards probably won't even interfere with stuff too much.
My interview is tomorrow afternoon, so we'll see.
I still have dreams about working at Kneaders sometimes. Not bad ones even; I do miss that job. It would be nice if there was one here.
Eric's job is ok, but he's looking for jobs that pay better too. He applied to MedTronic for one. The health insurance is pretty trash though, which is par for the course in this stupid country.
Shit, I need a fucking drink.
