Well, it's been a time. I feel like we're finally starting to catch up. I hope I don't jinx it now that I've said that.
Eric has been offered a permanent position at his work with a decent raise, plus a shift differential for second shift, so that's good! Plus we're getting a fat tax refund; yay! He starts as an official employee on Monday, so we'll be able to get benefits in May. I still need a crown on one tooth, and I need new glasses.
I just wish my cake business would pick up. I was doing ok for a while last year, but then after Thanksgiving it was dead, picked up a little again in January, and now it's dead again. People in the MN Cottage Food Producers group on Facebook keep recommending me to people, but then nobody contacts me. Lately all I'm getting is robocalls and scam calls, so I don't even bother answering the phone. I have my Google voice message set up explaining that I don't have anything available for immediate pickup and I need 5-7 days' notice for all orders, which I also have on my Google page and FB page, but people don't read. So if they don't leave a message I assume it's a robocall or somebody wants something right now. That way I don't have to repeat myself every time. Or people will ask me if I can make a thing, I say yes, and then I never hear from them again. Like what is the point of that?? I blame the economy. Inflation, and egg prices are ridiculous right now, because of the bird flu. I can make cakes and cookies without eggs though. We must learn to adapt and plan for these kinds of situations.
I still have my transcription work also. That was dead all the way through February and into March, but it's picking up again now. The pay isn't very good, but I enjoy it, and not having to deal with other people is priceless.
Anyway, Eric is working on upgrading both of our computers. We went to Micro Center on Saturday and got all the parts and he started working on mine, but then the Bios wouldn't flash so we need to update that so it would work with the new motherboard. Something like that; he's better at explaining it than I am. Computer building is not my area of expertise, heh. Micro Center said they can flash the Bios for us for another $30, but he was like fuck that, so we'll have to return both motherboards and get ones that will work.
Once that's all done we'll be able to run our games better, and then I'm thinking of doing some streaming on Twitch or YouTube or FB. I also brought my flute and clarinet here and got my flute out and played it a bit yesterday. I was surprised at how much I remember after not playing it for like nine years. It was fun! It wasn't even badly tarnished. I can about imagine what my silver tenor sax must look like by now. 😬 Once my computer is all upgraded I'm going to get Band in a Box and mess around with that. I found my microphone too. If I had known that's where the technology was heading 12-15 years ago I probably would have done some things differently. Oh well, life is funny like that, isn't it? With Band in a Box I don't need an accompanist, or anybody else to play with. It's brilliant! Then I can play what I want, what I enjoy! And if people don't like it, fuck 'em. Who cares? And I can wear what I want! Things that I've bought but never really wear. It's gonna be awesome! I always figured I'd come back to it eventually. It's time.
It's been kind of a lost decade. I'm back, baby! No gods, no kings, no bosses!
