I really should do an update. Let's see....
Got quite a few things coming up, actually. Pippi Longstocking opens Friday night. I only got the music on Sunday, but it's going OK. There are different people running the pit that I hadn't met before, so it's different, but they're nice. Anyway that runs the next three weekends.
Then there's a concert at Bethlehem in November, and two Dixieland band concerts-one online, and one at the Whitney. The online one is Nov. 21 (Sunday) at 7 pm Central time. I'll post the link later.
I'm not sure about sports band. I won't be there for a while on account of the musical, but I'll go back after football season is over.
Gabe is planning to come up December 12-15. He was having some problems and was going to go to the Dr; that was Sunday night, and I haven't heard anything from him since. If I don't hear from him by tonight I'm going to call him. I'm worried. :(
And on that front, things are plugging along. He has a place for the studio in uptown New Orleans-close to the garden district. He said it needs a lot of work though. I'm hoping to find a place to rent close to it when I get down there so I don't have to commute too far. I would be doing office assistant-type stuff, as well as working in the recording studio. There's also the potential for travel, which would be awesome. :D So let's hope all goes well. Hours have been cut at work, and I'm so mad I could shit bricks. That's another rant for another time and place, but just when you start to get ahead they pull this shit. Plus I had to get some stuff fixed on my car, so yeah. One step forward, two steps back. >:(
I've been battling a cold for the last week. I got my flu shot last Monday, and that night my throat started getting scratchy. So I haven't been doing much practicing. And now I have these weird neighbors that keep bugging me to play all the time, because sound carries in these apartments. Next time I'm going to tell them they sound like my parents when I lived at home. >:/ Arrg, I need to get out of here.
I'm also reading a book called Louis Armstrong's New Orleans, which is pretty interesting. It talks about his upbringing and how his sound was influenced by that, and the other musicians he listened to and played with growing up in New Orleans.
I feel like I should do more with my web site. I should add my musical resume somehow at least; I'm not sure.
I guess that's all I had for now. See you in another couple of weeks. :P
