Have You Read Some Shirley Jackson Lately?

"No live organism can continue for long to exist sanely under conditions of absolute reality; even larks and katydids are supposed, by some, to dream. Hill House, not sane, stood by itself against its hills, holding darkness within; it had stood so for eighty years and might stand for eighty more. Within, walls continued upright, bricks met neatly, floors were firm, and doors were sensibly shut; silence lay steadily against the wood and stone of Hill House, and whatever walked there, walked alone."

Opening Paragraph from "The Haunting" 1959.

Very trippy read. Don't try to read it all in one day like I did.
Second book by Shirley Jackson I've read in 3 months. I highly recommend her last book "We Have Always Lived in The Castle" which a friend used to introduce me to her...post-traumatic stress of having read "The Lottery" in University. All very well-written but ooky as hell!
