I just finished choosing my ONE course for the fall. I had been so anxious over getting started and reading through the UofT catalogue that I just put it off for weeks after receiving it from my registrar's office. It's so dense and full of rules and regulations that I could barely look at it for longer than five minutes without being reminded of that old time anxiety I used to feel that first time around. It's overwhelming.
I think my problem was that I was looking too much at the big picture of what I want to accomplish when all I have to do is choose one course (a good friend had given me a call right at the moment my anxiety was at its height and she really helped me put things into perspective). Really, once I got down to it, I actually only need 1.5 credits to upgrade to a Major in Art History. That's 3 half year courses. When that 1.5 gets broken down into the Major's requirements, there are actually fewer courses I can choose from thus making my decision process a lot easier. I now currently have 2 courses I can choose from to complete 1 of 3 requirements I need to get my Major. The other 2 requirements will be covered when I choose my latter 2 courses.
I know that doesn't make much sense, but maybe now one can see why I put it off for so long. I feel so relieved to have figured it out-- and a whole week before registration begins too!
