I had the absolute worst morning yesterday!

I had it so well planned out too...I had to be in New Jersey for the meeting by noon for the executive committee lunch, and then I could start setting up the registration table at 2pm. I was going to pick-up my rental car at 9am, load all of my stuff in it, drive to the conference center and stop at the Wegmans (yay Wegmans) on the way there for a sub.

Well, I barely got even an hour of sleep Saturday night, I just couldn't turn my brain off. It was awful, but it meant that I was up and ready to leave extra early, so I grabbed my purse and headed off to the bus stop so that I could take the bus to the rental car place by Laguardia airport. I get there early which I'm pleased about, but while the woman behind the counter was putting my drivers license/credit card information into the system, she paused and slid me a piece of paper. Then she looked up at me and send, "I can't rent you this car, your license is suspended."

WHAT????!!!!

I haven't even owned a car for a year, I think I would know if my license was suspended. I kept trying to explain how ridiculous this was to her, but she didn't care in the slightest. She was so devoid of any personality/sympathy/human recognition, it was infuriating. I was practically begging her to rent me this car and she's like, "I'm sorry, you have to take this up with the DMV."

Well, obviously the DMV is closed on Sunday, so I was :@ out of luck. So I drag my sorry butt out of the rental place, crying and freaking out. I couldn't even imagine what I'd tell my boss and I was sure that I was going to get fired. I had way too much stuff to bring with me (I hadn't shipped any of it because I thought I was going to have that car) to take public transportation, plus, by that time it was a little after 9am, and the only train that I could've taken from Penn Station was leaving at 10:13am, and I definitely would not have made it in time with all of my stuff from Queens. So, I had to call a car service and have them take me to New Jersey! Plus, they don't take credit cards, so I had to run out to the ATM and take out $200 just to make sure that I'd had enough. Already I was completely shaken.

So, the guy picks me up and we head out, unfortunately Sunday was the 5 borough bike ride so we had to take a detour already and go straight through Manhattan - not good. Plus it was also "celebrate Israel day" or something, so traffic was absolutely awful. Even after we got into New Jersey, the traffic was abysmal. Plus, this guy's car had that navigating equipment, so it kept telling him how to get there, but he wouldn't pay attention and would make me repeat whatever it said. And whenever we were on a long stretch, where it wasn't saying anything because we were just going straight for however many miles he would constantly ask me what the next turn, etc was. I kept telling him that I couldn't tell him until the navigational software told me, but he kept doing it anyway.

Then, once he finally dropped me off, I forgot my cellphone in the car! I couldn't believe it, I had a nervous breakdown in front of the poor woman at the front desk of the conference center. She helped me call my phone from the front desk, and the first time the driver hung up on me! Then when he answered the second time he finally agreed to turn around and drop my phone back off. I was literally shaking once I finally sat down at the lunch that I'd almost completely missed.

What a crappy morning :(

Plus, this means no trip to Wegmans to stock up on Groceries on my way home tomorrow :( Sad panda.
