Welcome to the first live blog of the Season. Not much to say about the opening number because I missed it cause I forgot the show was on tonight for various reasons. In fact, the only reason I have time to blog this is because I'm off from work tomorrow but more on that another time.

I usually love Shane Sparks but the group routine was a little too all over the place. Clearly the director couldn't decide how to shoot it and so it was hard to get a sense of what was going on most of the time. I really hope that this isn't a trend for how the group routines are shot, because you need a LOT of wide shots for that stuff. Happily they didn't do too much of that for the couples on Wednesday.
I bet that Jeanine and Phillip, Max and Kayla, and Evan and Randi were the top three couples. They were all really good, and they each have one person who was very popular coming into the top 20. I also loved Melissa's little only-in-the-back ballet skirt.
Trying to work up tension for Kupono and Ashley leaving was a bit silly, and for Brandon and Jeanette, because they were both so great.
I agreed with the judges that Vittolio and Karla's solos were the only ones I really wanted to see for a second time. Vittolio in particular showed the fire that he didn't in his couple routine. And Karla's was so musical!
I was really disappointed in Tony-that popping and locking should have been awesome, and it was just eh. Paris, too, didn't do anything I really cared about. Solos for latin ballroom are always weird, but Asuka's was even stranger, and Jonathan just did a lot of flips. They're going to have to work out good solos, definitely, or their partners are going to leave them behind.
Also that tango pair was awesome!
