viva italia!

So, I have made the reservations and bookings, and I am officially going to Italy from December 16-31. I will be visiting Rome, Florence, and Venice in that order, and will be in Florence for Christmas. Since my parents are non-practicing Buddhists (though mostly a-religious, at that) hopefully they will not be too upset at my absence during that time period. We've celebrated Christmas over the years in a sort of secular holiday way, with the giving of gifts and so forth, so the actual day itself holds little special meaning. I don't expect to do much in Florence on Christmas Day or the day after besides, perhaps, walk about town and take a look at the outdoor sights that will be open regardless, but it will be very cool to witness Christmas in another country.

I don't believe I have any Italian flisters, but if anyone would like to meet up in Italy during the time I will be there, I am certainly open to it! Also, I know several flisters love Italy, so I would love any advice I can get! I've bought the Eyewitness guides to Venice & Rome, and the Rick Steve's Pocket Dictionary, guide to Italy, and guide to Florence & Tuscany. The guides are definitely very helpful--and I love having lots of reading material--but sometimes personal traveler advice is best. Any advice, guys?
