I gave up on sleuthing since the case of the missing bike horn turned into a double rape homicide.

I made baked ziti yesterday. The recipe was relatively straightforward and it turned out really well, although I used jar spaghetti sauce which was on sale and, y'know, on sale for good reason. Other than that, everything came out surprisingly well!

I also got a random Starbucks $5 gift card yesterday and a found $12 on the street. I am scared to put it in my wallet (because it was on the street and could be dirty, though realistically, most money that I encounter has probably been on the street and is dirty and I just don't know it) so I think I'm going to splurge instead and spend it on a ridiculous cup of green tea flavored fro yo. I've refused to let myself buy it since that one time long, long ago because $5 for a cup of chemical sweetness and random topping? Such a rip. But since I have free money now...

So today, some strange number called me on my cell phone FIVE TIIMES IN A ROW AT 8:30 IN THE MORNING. I picked up on the fourth ring and some dude mumbled, "Uh, wrong number." I didn't wait for him to say anything else and just hung up after that because, y'know what, it's 8:30 in the MORNING on a SATURDAY and I don't want to talk to anyone would would do that to me. I went back to sleep even after he called my phone AGAIN after that (hello, if it's the wrong number, why call again?) and was very angry at having my sleep disturbed. Perhaps I was pranked or maybe I have a new creepy phone stalker (5 consecutive calls? really?) but I just hope it doesn't happen again.

I also made guacamole today and it is good! I managed to get the avocados to the perfect ripeness, so congrats to me! I made French toast for the first time too and it was, sadly enough, not good. Too much nutmeg, not enough brown sugar, and the bread I bought this week at the grocery store is far too soft and flimsy to cook properly for French toast. Oh well, I have the ingredients now, so I'll make it some other time with different bread and hope it comes out better.

Television:

Cougartown - the writers seem to be trying to figure out where this show is going, and I'm wondering as well. Courtney Cox is likeable, but she needs to dial down her intensity from the current 11 to about a 6.5, because she's going to get very shrill, very soon.

Modern Family - I love this show. That is all.

Numb3rs - sometimes the math is interesting, sometimes it is not. But man, some of the plots are just out of this world--like betting on Russian roulette online. Fascinating stuff.

The Mentalist - I'm glad this show is also shifting away from procedurals to examining the characters more. I hope to see a Cho centered episode soon.

The Office - PB&J wedding was wonderful. Loved it.

Parks & Recreation - this is far and away the most improved show since last season. Really good stuff now--I love Leslie and her new guy.

Stargate: Universe - Looks like they've taken a few things from BSG: namely, the documentary style hand held camera footage, the greater focus on character drama and a large ensemble cast, and even the idea of being stuck on a rickety old ship trying to get back to Earth. I like all those things, and I like that the characters seem to be more fully developed characters instead of the heroic archetypes that tend to populate most of the Stargate canon, so I'm enjoying this revamp so far, though other than Eli, I'm not really finding myself loving any of the characters yet.
