[drabble] Walker's Return

Jan 26, 2010 01:10

The shock of red hair always stood out amongst the dark, however the one baring it tried to hide.

"F-... Fourteenth?" Lenalee's voice rang out in the dim hallway, although she hadn't spoken loudly her voice echoed.

This wasn't how she had seen him before. This... pale person staring off into space quietly. It looked like him though... "Fourteenth...?"

"No~ one's home~" A singsong whisper answered, an absent smile raising up on the pale lips.

Lenalee knelt down in front of this person who looked like her comrade. "Are you okay?"

The green eye lazily focused on her, "Who... are you?" The 14th's whisper sounded frightened almost.

"I'm your friend, don't you remember?" She reached out to cup his cheek gently--but he jerked away.

"D-don't touch me." He hissed, backpedaling against the wall, single eye wide. Then, just as suddenly, his eye rolled up and his head lolled to the side.

A flush of grey washed over that pale skin, green fading from the eye until it shone its usual unearthly color and refocused on the lone girl kneeling in front of him. "Oh, hello Lenalee." The 14th smiled, words as stiff as his body as he fumbled slightly getting to his feet.

"Fourteenth." Her voice made him paus, like a deer waiting for the car. "Who... who was that?"

"No one of importance anymore." The red head cracked another smile, even while a bitter tone slipped under his words.

The 14th brushed himself off, adjusting his coat where it had been twisted, and then began to walk away. Lenalee didn't move, but called out one more time. "Fourteenth?"

"Yes m'dear?"

"Take care of him.... He seemed scared."

The 14th paused, before a sad smile claimed his expression, "He's always scared these days."

Laying out on the hillside, it was easy to forget the terrors of the day. And the fact he was slowly losing his mind.

Cross had decided to spend their rent (again), so Walker had needed to go out gambling (again) for his lazy Master.

"BOY!" The redhead jolted up his head snapping around at the sound of Cross's voice. But it was just Timcampy waddling over with his mouth open to let the recording play. "I'll be using the place tonight. Don't come back until ... dinnertime .... tomorrow."

"Yes, Master..." Walker sighed and let his head fall back against the grass, reaching out absently to pat Tim's giant head. At least it kept him busy.
