Well a lot of things have been going on in my life...and I suppose its time to update the 'ole journal.

So I've graduated. Its awesome. I love not having to worry about the next paper, or being behind on reading, assignments, etc. Its just nice to be able to relax and not have to deal with philosophy for a while. Actually being able to read a fictional book that doesn't have to deal with the nature of the spiritual reality is really nice--that and being able to do that without worrying that because I'm reading this, I'm putting myself behind in my other reading.

But with graduating from college comes other responsibilities--looking for a "real" job. I went to a job fair a while back and put in my resume' with a bunch of companies. Let's see, I could be: 1) A Sears Circuit Manager (someone who fields and sends out techs to your house to fix a problem) 2) A Royal Caribbean Vacation Planner, 3) A Bridgestone/Firestone Sales Manager, 4) A Nationwide Property Claims Agent, and lastly 5) A Manager at a Steak n' Shake...
Now some of those jobs DID sound appealing...I mean, I'm a philosophy major..what the hell am I gonna do with that? All of these jobs have called me in for interviews, and call backs. I went to the Firestone interview, and the people for Nationwide, Royal Caribbean, and Sears have all called me requesting one...

Here's the dilemma: After going to the firestone interview, it sounded pretty cool. Bassically I'd be selling tires, alignment, etc. And you may be asking, "But you don't know anything abou cars Colin!" That's very true. However, they want really good people that have a lot of customer service and selling experience...and working at Camps, Universal, and Picture People have given me a plethora of those types of skills. Now it all sounds nice, I could be making a pretty penny working at ANY of these places...upwards of 35k a year plus commission; plus benefits and 401k shizzle. However, they just don't seem like the places for me...I'm not a tire salesman...I'm not a claims agent...they just aren't ME. I need something creative in my life--something that would sustain my need to create and fulfill my queer/art tendencies (spill).

So what I decided was to just stay working at Picture People and Universal, between the two of them I could work about 40 hours a week and make the money I need to survive (and to potentially pay for Full Sail next year). And in the meantime I could work on my film stuff, writing, shooting, etc. And be fulfilled doing that. I was willing to accept that, be happy with that and everything would just be peachy. Alicia and I worked out a budget (on Excel...and its funny saying this, I GET why Matt is so excited about the program, its actually 'fun' to make up the formulas and such so when you type in a figure in one field it reflects multiple other figures on different workbooks...so there you go Spillton) so that I could be living comfortably (but not too extravagantly) and still put away a significant amount towards Full Sail and my Roth IRA.

In the meantime though, I made up an Ad on Craig's List concerning my want for freelance work, describing my skills and requesting work. And I've already gotten two responses for that, I'm going to be interviewed by one lady for a project. And another requested prices for shooting a wedding...Now, just requests may sound like nothing, but to me its exciting because I COULD be starting the roots to my freelance work, and its proving that my Ad attracts attention and people need the work done...so making that extra money in order to survive life at Full Sail isn't looking so bad. Plus, I could get a better computer to edit on...That, and after graduation money, and by renting out my camera I've already paid for my expensive camera (awesome) which I love.

But that's not all folks...if you hadn't known I've been working on a project for the Golden Clickers at Universal Studios for the Jaws attraction. Basically the purpose of the Clicker is a chance for each attraction to make fun of working at UO and also poking at other attractions. This year, I stepped up to the plate and said that I would make the Clicker. To make a long story short, it took about 4 months to make script to finished product, many days of waking up at 5:00am to shoot at sunrise, and many hours editing. But the final project, "Jaws The Musical: How to Tune a Fish" turned out great. We actually did a musical, recording the songs (which were parodies of popular show tunes into Jaws-themed lyrics, such as "Where is my bump?!" instead of "Seasons of Love" from Rent) and shooting them went awesome. I'm really proud of the work I/we did. And we won! Actually, we destroyed the competition--but further than that, basically EVERYONE at Universal loves it, saying that its the best Clicker they've ever seen and its been running for 10 years. Even Bob Gault(the CEO of Universal) thought it was funny. So who knows if anything will pan out from that. But whatever the case, it was put up on YouTube by our supervisor, Dan Gurwitz. And it has had upwards of 3,000 views...with so many comments talking about how great it is. Also, I've had multiple people from random places say that they've seen it. Even Mike told me that one of his LJ friends, JessPark came across it, loved it, and even made an LJ post of it (furthering its exposure)...and I don't even know her! I'm so happy with all its success.

But...it had to be taken down. Apparently the execs at Universal were starting to get nervous when they heard that it was starting to really pick up steam and was getting so many views, plus it had two good reviews from two decent sites: Scream Scape and Speilberg Films
So Dan was asked to take it down from YouTube. So at first I was freaking out, like this might be a big break for me (internet explosion exposure can lead almost anywhere), and how can they censor art, etc. But Dan just emailed me and let me know that the execs were simply wanting to really watch it to make sure that there weren't any problems with it...before it got crazy exposure...but he told me that there shouldn't be any problems and it should be back up sometime soon. When that happens I'll let you all know.

But what does this have to do with the whole job search? Well, it turns out that my neighbor down south saw the Clicker and always knew that I did film work, but never really knew my full talent. And it turns out that she personally knows a 'big wig' at Channel 9 here in Orlando. So I worked on my resume' and she's going to send it out to her. And since she personally knows her, she is going to set up a time where I can actually meet with the lady from Channel 9 (who is like the head person in charge of hiring...did I mention that). So who knows what will come of that...it would be sooooooo awesome to have an editing job. Just to edit anything for money would be a dream come true. Plus I'd have a full time job, and it would take care of all my worries that I had earlier. And if I got a job in the field, I wouldn't even NEED to go to Full Sail...I'd already have my 'in'. So I'm really excited about this whole thing, its such a great time in my life. But I'm not getting too excited...just...enough.

If you read this far and this much...thanks. It means that you care...or something like that.
