Life After College

So it seems like FOREVER since I updated the old LJ, although this likely stems from the fact that two weeks of 12 hour training/rehearsals has severly warped my perception of time.  In that time I've learned an entire show (and I mean ENTIRE show, including the blocking for all 50 kids who step onstage), learned how to teach children quickly, memorized about 5 different workshops, learned how to fill out mountains of paper, and somehow managed to find time to go to the bar on multiple occassions :-D  I've met a lot of really cool people, joined a psuedo gang called the Mer Peeps, and gotten choked up more times than I care to admit (but I have yet to actually cry).

I have decided that the Rocky Mountains are way cooler than the Appalachain Mountains.  They are bigger, prettier, and generally more interesting to look at.  However, they also get snow in June (I know this for a fact because it snowed two days before I left).  And if you know me, you know I don't like snow in the summer.  Which for a southern boy like me means the months of April through September.  I have also decided, after taking an entire day (14 hours) of driving through it, that Montana is a beautiful state the is completely deserving of the nickname Big Sky Country.  As we drove our little red truck across the landscape, I just wanted to get out of the car and go exploring.  But we had to get all the way to Kentucky, so there wasn't much time for that.

Oh yeah.  My first stop for my year long tour is in Kentucky, and I just got here today.  You probably need to know that.

So my tour partner is interesting.  We have almost the exact same taste in movies and entertainment (although she likes the musical "Jekyll & Hyde," which I admit loses her some points with me).  She's really nice, although she lacks self confidence and tends to worry.  I'm actually not the anal one in the partnership.

Now that those of you who know me have picked your jaws up off the floor and stopped laughing, I will continue with my story.  I am currently in the little mountain town of Jackson, Kentucky, preparing to audition kids at 10 in the morning for our production of "The Little Mermaid."  I'm really excited to work with the kids, and it looks like I'm going to get to spend a good deal of time with the leads and the Seahorses.  The Seahorses are the parts designed for 5 to 7 year olds, which means they are SUPER cute.  The best part is that they sing a country song and dance while the Tour Actor (that's me) parades about the stage in a bright yellow starfish costume (complete with purple chaps and a hat).  Then on the of the Seahorses has a solo.  It's pretty much the cutest thing ever.  Pictures will appear on Facebook in the near future.

Other than that, not much has been going on in my life.  It's been train, train, and train some more for the past two weeks.  I've been bombarded with information that I hopefully absorbed and will put to good use this week.  I've become slightly sleep deprived, a condition which isn't helped by the fact that I am sitting in my room at 1 o'clock in the morning writing a Livejournal.  Which is my cue to go to bed.

I'll try to update regularly with fun stories and amusing anecdotes about my life on the road (and a tour schedule, for anyone interested in trying to arrange a visit).  In the meantime, know that I miss you guys bunches and will do my damnedest to keep in touch.  Any help you can offer in this area (by calling me) would be greatly appreciated ;-)

Peace outtie!
