Way back in the year 1996, the Chehalis/Centralia suffered a record setting flood year. The freeway was under water, hundreds of homes were washed out, and millions of dollars of damage to homes and businesses was caused. This 96' flood has since then become a "reference flood," a gauge by which every flood since then, (minor floods that occur about every two years,) has been measured.
In the last four or so days, heavy rain has pounded the pacific northwest causing severe flooding all over the state of Washington. Today, the rain stopped just in time. The freeway here looks like it is floating on a lake. If the rain hadn't stopped, 2006 would have been the new 1996. Meteorologists say the rain will be back in a few days.
I know flooding is a terrible disaster, but it is amazing to see it. When everything in the landscape you are used to seeing is partially submerged in a never ending lake, its incredible.
