I Read the News Today part 1

The year is 1959 and I (Jennifer Lennon) am about to be a student at the Liverpool teaching college.I
have shoulder length brown hair and I am like 5’4’’. I live with my brother John at our Aunt Mimi’s house because of our mother. John is in an amazing band called the quarrymen, I would know because I’ve been to like everyone of their shows. But to be able to play in his band with our mutual friends Paul, George, Pete and Stu he had to drop out of Art College. And that is where our story starts today

“John Lennon get yourself down here this instant,” My Aunt roared up the stairs startling John and myself. John looks at me and rolls off of his bed and smirks “Wanna race,” he offered me pulling me up off of my bed where I was studying for my eleven-plus exam. I look at my brother like he’s crazy and scoff in his direction “Like you can beat me dear brother, you have to use a cane to get down those stairs you’re so old.” I say smirking in his direction. We look ateach other and take off running and laughing. We ram into each other trying to get the advantage and neither one of us getting very far. Mimi stood in the living room looking severe at our actions and when we quieted down she let us have it. “John Lennon I’m so mad at you, what is this I hear about you dropping out of college. I told you that the guitar is a good hobby but it will never get you anywhere.” She yelled into Johns face. I just couldn’t take it anymore I just had to do something “Aunt Mimi I know he’s gonna make something of himself, I just know it. He’s talented and smart he knows what he is doing, all those boys do Aunt Mimi,” I end looking at her square in the face. Aunt Mimi didn’t like that I was sticking up for John and she got into my face screaming “You ungrateful little brat, after I take you in you do this to me yeh bitch.” She cut off grabbing me by the arms and throws me into the wall. This enrages John and he turns to his Aunt “She was just sticking up for me why did you do that.” John shouts not noticing Mimi picking up a lamp I try to shout a warning but Mimi is too quick and she strikes him over the head with the lamp. I watch I horror as my older brother falls to the ground “When he wakes up tell him to get out, neither one of you are welcome in my home anymore.” And she turns to leave. When she gets into the kitchen the front door opens and little George Harrison peeks through the crack he made “Jeni are you okay?” he asks running over to me. Kneeling down he brushes the hair out of my eyes while trying to see if I was hurt. I smile when I answer him “I’m fine Georgie, just sore but John.” He put his hand over my mouth and didn’t let me finish. “I went to the neighbors house and phoned me da and he said that he was on his way and that the two of you are gonna stay with our family,” he said helping me up off of the ground “So go pack your and John’s things and I’ll try to wake John up before me da gets here.” George says kneeling next to John. I walk up the stairs and slowly begin to pack my things. I begin to wonder how everything ended up like this. Aunt Mimi was never really the most loving Aunt that you could have, infact I remember once when John was 17 he told her that he was going to move in with Julia (our mother) and never come back again. Well of course I was devastated, how could my only brother (really the only family that I had…not counting Aunt Mimi) just leave me. Our uncle George had gotten John and I a little doggie for Christmas one year and we both loved that pet. When Aunt Mimi heard that John wasn’t coming back she had our puppy destroyed. Not put down, or even let me keep it she destroyed the poor animal and I cried myself to sleep for a week afterwards. John, of course, came back the next day and was dismayed to hear that his puppy wasn’t there anymore. Our loving Aunt told him that it was because that he wasn’t going to be there anymore, that it was my job to be in the kitchen and his job to take care of the dog. I had finished packing my things while thinking about my puppy and had moved onto Johns things, When I had finished I grabbed the bags and went down the stairs.
