Well, a couple of months ago, before school let out, my mother shocked me one day and told me that I should try not to be so drab with my hair. This shocked me because it was the beginning of her finally accepting me as her daughter. She has been making many strides and even some very cute blunders. She even talks to me about them and it evokes a laugh...She tries so hard, but force of habit, you know? She totally gets it after trying to reject it so much. Shortly after, my sister began to text with me and it was a pretty good pace. And then we had the talk. So, I began to explain to her my story and how I felt and she began to understand. She is grieving and trying to put herself back together and not hate me for taking away the person she thought I was. And I am slowly being acclimated into the family again. One of my aunts is even very vocal in her support and that she is very happy for me. And her son, who tried to beat the girl out of me, even made a show of support. He posted a picture on his facebook page and mentioned my name, not my dead name. So, my family is coming around and I am really seeing my family being more and more supportive. They worry because of my nature, but hey! When you are as adventurous a girl as me, why wouldn't you worry? Ha ha
But one thing that I have come to see in myself through all of this is that even as people have done things or said things in the past, I have always had a wait and see type of attitude to see if they would be the people I know them to be. And they have been...Which is amazing. And I myself, just sit and wait for it all to unfold. The only person that is out there, my best friend for most of my life, Tony (he is my cousin and we are three months apart), I wonder how he would be with all of this. I still have my brother and my mother's side of the family. But I am going to be sending out more FB invitations. I know for many it is hard. But I am willing to work on relationships. But I find that the acceptance from my family has been so overwhelming and positive that we even now talk as a closer family. I feel better and I feel closer with them.
