Summary: If Mrs. Lovett can't be a high-class woman, at least she can dress like one.
Nellie Lovett admires her reflection with pardonable pride. She's never owned such a gown as this before, and she cannot help but be charmed at how the pale violet silk brings out the blue in her eyes, or how the foamy gatherings of lace at the hem, collar and cuffs are as fine-spun as candy floss. Indeed, a woman who can afford to clothe herself in such must be a woman of high esteem.
Just yesterday, Mrs. Lovett served such a woman. This afternoon, she would serve her again.
Pity, she thinks, I never thanked her for the dress.
