Here I am, of all places, in the grad stacks, looking out on campus from a rather heightened perspective. Who knew you could see so much from only the 6th floor? I can see all of the rooftops...solitary and quite the eyesore. I feel there is a good reason buildings arent often so high, even if to hide the solitary, unkempt, desolation that is the world of campus rooftops. A smoky stack from our power plant, blacktop, ventilation tubes, ice and snow, copper molding turned green by years of wind and rain. It definitely reminds me why I like to keep to the ground...at least in these parts. I guess it is beautiful in its own right; a world of its own hovering above our own reality, unique, neraly perfect because it seems so unscathed by human hands, letting only the forces of nature bare down on its surface. Ha, a man-made plateau, if you will. It somehow makes me long to be sitting in the arb at the point where, if you go at night, you can look straight ahead to north campus, and still have a panoramic view of the stars. Its the one place where light pollution isnt completely stifling. The best part about this view though, is that you can look beyond all of the brick, stone, and metal, and catch glimpses of nature timidly making a mark on the scenery. I can see rolling hills in the distance, covered in bare trees and snow. Every now and again a little green shows through from the trees that werent willing to give up their coat for winter. It is amazing how close things seem from here. It feels like it would take nearly no time to get from place to place, but some of the biggest buildings are the furthest away. You think everything is within reach... Though juvenile and lacking any real poetic quality, I find it nice to write like this sometime. My unique way of reflecting on the world, I guess. Its relaxing to sit and think about things not related to anything really.....clears the mind...refreshes the soul...ha ha, even if it is stupid talk about rooftops and depth perception...well, back to the real world. time to study!!!!
Go find something oddly beautiful today. Write about it. Love it!
