americans eat way too early for dinner. who in the right mind in taiwan eats dinner before 7? 7's normal but 5:30? that's an afternoon snack. yes, dinner ends at 7, but it makes more sense to eat at 7 or 7:30 than at 5:45-6ish. the sun's still out for crying out loud. but the sun sets really early taiwan so i guess 6 wouldn't be such a hard time.
