I haven't heard this well enough yet to give a comment but hey, Danny, Taeyang and Ji-eun. PLUS it's MASTA WU. How wrong can it go? xD
bitterluv's review: Right from the first track Get Up, I am transcending the YG hip hop styles of Mas Wu! You have pure rap featuring DM & Masta Wu. The intro gives you the steady background beat that gets your club groove going -- steady, "nice & slow." Get Up is definately getting you giddy & ready for the rest of the album. It brings all the anxiety of a YG Family production release and welcomes us back to their style and grandeur. Scandal def blows my mind -- first off, the feature artist, Danny/Taebin of 1TYM adds his vocals to this track, which comes off to me as fresh; yet old-school. The digital "yeahh - oh nooo~" reminds me of TaeYang/recent American R&B artists -- which brings us back to the "this is new GOOD stuff" feel! You can appreciate how they incorporated the newer "styles" of R&B to accomaddate to our listening pleasure. This isn't your teenybopper boyband hip hop club scene, this is the 21+ club scene! <3 Tell It To My Heart is the title song featuring our one & only Uhm Jung Hwa. Tell It To My Heart is actually a song by trance/techno artist Kelly Llorenna. But unlike other remakes, YGMA has completely changed Tell It To My Heart to a sick rap beatz track. The female-male interchange is fully exhibited here, with Uhm Jung Hwa, DM, & Masta Wu constantly going back & forth with the verses, rap intervals, and singing! Def single material! Track 4 is HOTTTT! What has ... YG FAMILY features! With G-Dragon (Big Bang), Teddy (1TYM), Kush, CL, and Perry .. this is a super invovled track; bringing back the concept of YG Family! This track is a bit 'explicit' with your usual DM/Perry/Mas Wu cursing but I really appreciate Kush's rap section where he uses the "hot (뜨거) du guh" phrase aka 1TYM days. Although I don't necessarily agree with the image they're trying to emit (being gangsters.....); but I think they've done an overall great job with this song if you look at it purely lyrical & song-wise. Track 5 is Real Talk features only TaeYang from Big Bang and is a smoother fast-paced rap piece. I'm kinda feeling the "alchoholic-induced haze" if you know what I mean here. Like, the background constanly brings me up & down while the rap steadies the flow. It's like slow house/trance with rap on top of it? The last song on the mini-album features yet ANOTHER great YG artist Ji-Eun! Let It Play is my fav track after Scandal & Tell It To My Heart; with the trance elements fully coming out here! They've kinda digitalized Ji-Eun's voice, but th at's alright. DM's rapping is very sexy & lulls you to feeling the club groove and immersing yourself towards the beat of this song. (:
Overall, this has been a pretty solid & decent album. I think it might not have been what many people have been expecting if you are comparing their music to especially Big Bang. I would say that this album takes quite a few listens to realllyyyy loove it! But that's my opinion. Personally, I'm VERY happy w/YG Ent. for releasing this! <33
