as a sociology teacher how do you feel comfortable teaching such blatant "blame the victim" mentality. My soc 300 teacher went on and on today about how so many of the problems inherent in different societies have to do with their "refusal" to embrace modern technology. As an example he compared japan and Cambodia, except he seems to have the part where we were heavily involved in shaping japan's economy and government, and sinking millions of dollars into their economy, as well as freeing up a huge chunk of their GNP by providing military protection to them. While Cambodia was left to fight their own internal war, and be subjected to genocide at the hands of a dictator with little to no outside assistance. But clearly it is due to the attitudes of the local people, not due to the effects of both colonialism, and neo-colonialism.
