Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth...
Among many things I could be thinking about, there is one thought that leads back to roleplaying. The thing with roleplaying is: where do things actually conclude? Most of it is left open-ended. If there is a definite ending, it's left up to the players involved. However, we all choose to take certain liberties with how a character's story ends.
Now, I'm ripping off Silent Hill's system, but it's pretty basic:
The GOOD END: Character goes through everything, ends up earning what he/she strove for. Certain events leading up to said goal(s) are both successes and failures, but positive results come from the experience.
The BAD END: Character goes through the same amount of everything, comes up short of what he/she was striving for. Certain events are both successes and failures. Results are mixed.
The GOOD + END: Much like the GOOD END, just with bonuses of the good sort.
The BAD + END: Much like...both GOOD and BAD, just with some Extra Terrible because we're all sadistic that way.
There's also the ALIEN END but that one gets too weird. So instead of that, there's the ALTERNATIVE. Dark Future, Plot Twist, whatever. As if...all of the ones listed above aren't alternate endings already.
In short, I'm just curious if anyone has ever tried writing out things for their characters.
