So this has been a thing that's been one of those constant trivial thoughts reflecting upon all of my hobbies and interests and all of the nerdery that comes with it. And as many of you can see, I do have the ability to maintain the gist of ideas, trivia, memes, and other forms of whatever relating to cartoons/anime, video games, television shows, comics/manga, books, movies, RP, etc. Visual media relating to pop culture in general, probably, but I'm not sure how to categorize that.
Anyway, if you play/watch/read [whatever form of visual media it is], it's easier to understand the worlds built around those concepts and get the inevitable jokes that are brought up during the course of being played/watched/read.
'Yeah, sure! That's what's suppose to happen and that's all good and fine, but what does this have to do with anything?' You may be wondering. 'Are we taking another trip into your head, Monch?'
And I say: 'Yes.'
Let me tell you this, dear friend reader: I am a nerd poseur.
Of course, you may have known this already. From what most (or some) have seen hanging out with me, I don't explode into outright nerdery at the drop of a hat. If I do, it's usually contained or somehow transferred into hitting things multiple times over in slightly suppressed excitement. I can also consider my status on the subtle side, being more mature (hah) and laid back (ahah) about nerd things. And this will still be ranked higher than most fanatics and other strange people.
I found out I'm not that active in this role. Yeah, I can play these games. I don't always finish them if I do, but I don't mind watching other people play them. I don't mind hearing about stories or certain series or any little tidbits of info depending on how deep a person is in any particular fandom; there's always that fine line and it's usually crossed when a hardcore fan goes further into it - it always happens, but I digress. I do enjoy reading RP that has been played out whenever I'm tired of trying to keep up with my own tags or just RPing in general (even if I have been meaning to play - which I will get to, dang it).
And there are just...so many different sources out there. I mean, come on - half of the stuff I don't read, watch, or play. At all. Eighties cartoons, for example: being born in the middle of that decade, I shouldn't be able to remember them. I can blame
disposableninja for that exposure. And yet...I still get it. Because it's there and if you make an effort to understand some of the concepts, it starts making some sense after a while.
To tell the truth, understanding all of this is freaking hard work.
But...I try to do it. It doesn't make much sense to me, but I enjoy some of the stuff people come up with. Even if the logic behind the storylines and gameplay doesn't flow with what's been presented, I still try making sense of it. And I do like discussing certain series. I like bouncing off the knowledge built up from that and getting references correct. Asking doesn't hurt as long as you can remember sarcasm is a part of it, and I don't mind the sarcasm that much unless people are pushing it.
So. Yeah. Me being a nerd, but not really a nerd. If I included the social circles I've worked with in the past, it balances out the present and still leaves me somewhere in the middle. But that's not a bad thing. If I know where I stand, then that's how it will be.
...See, this was suppose to be a simple post about how many video games I've actually played and finished, but it just went on.
