Only Warmer

Went for my first job interview at the Radio Shack today. I realized how much lacking in experience I've had so far. Most americans start working when they're just teenagers, so that by the time they reach my age, they already have a modest resume under their belt.

I, on the other hand, have never had an actually job in my whole life (aside from the occasional editing job, which is more for fun than profit). While most American teenagers are prepared to live alone by the age of 18, I am a veritable child.

It was hard to prove my credibility as a future employee, especially during my very first job interview ever. It was for a job as a sales associate at a nearby Radio Shack. It was a really small store full of random electronics. The manager was a portly white man who motioned me towards the very small stockroom. He asked for my qualifications.

"I know a little about electronics and stuff, that's basically what I did back home in the Philippines. I'd fix the connections behind the TV."

"Oh, you've got TV over there?"

"Yeah, we've even got cable. We've got MTV, Channel V."

"Well, whadaya know."

"We've even got Starbucks."

"So it's just like America?"

"Only warmer."

Needless to say, I didn't get the job. But at least I have two more interviews lined up: One's for a Home Depot nearby, and one's for a Children's Photography Studio.
