My brief report of 2009 Chicago Convention Part 1
So, it's my first convention. I'd say it's my best experience ever. On the way back from Chicago, I had a looooot in mind that I wanna write in my report. However, I was too exhausted to collect my thoughts and was busy editing and uploading my videos to youtube. My decision to buy that camera for the convention is clearly very wise. Glad that thousands of people watched my videos and liked it. But my greatest regret is that I over-estimated my battery and thus wasn't able to tape Misha's whole panel. Save it for the next time! Another mistake is that I didn't write the report when I was the most excited; now I'm just too lazy to go over all the details ╮(￣▽￣)╭. That's why it's only a BRIEF report. My photos with Misha, Jensen and Jared will be in another post and it will be flocked.
First of all, Misha is the biggest surprise for me in this convention! I wasn't a big fan of him although I do love Castiel and watched his other works in CSI, NCIS, and 24. But last Saturday after met him, I rushed to my laptop and booked two photo op tickets with him for LA con. He was the funniest one on the stage. Although Jared and Jensen made me crack up for a few times too, I could still control my body then. For many times in Misha's panel, I really couldn't hold my camera still because of laughing. XDDD Giving a boring answer is like torturing to him.
Later when my friend Fei and I was waiting in the line for Misha's photo op, a lady walked by and told the lady standing before us:"He's gorgeous. Stay calm." Yeah, that's a good spoiler. When we finally entered the room and saw him standing there, I was stunned. He's tall and slim and the smile was so beautiful. My friend Fei is a minion, so her brain stopped working from then on (until the next day, srsly). When it's our turn, thank Gawd I remembered how to talk. I took out the little cardboard I prepared for him to hold. I drew a Chinese character with two wings as below. I asked him:"Could you hold this?" He said:"Sure." And then he held it with his left hand, held my shoulder with his right hand and was ready for the picture; Fei was standing on his left then. But Chris (the photographer) suddenly stopped and asked Fei:"Are you OK?" We all thus looked at Fei. She just stood there deadpan. I asked her if everything's fine and she assured us she's all right, but still no facial expression. I knew she's internally blacked out. Then Misha moved the cardboard to his right hand and held Fei's shoulder with his left hand trying to make her less nervous. After the picture was taken, I explained to Misha the picture in the middle is a Chinese character. It looks like a face, which sometimes means "embarrassing", but also means "dorky and adorable". That's the Chinese nickname we Chinese fans used to call him. We call Castiel "the adorkable angel". Misha cracked up and said "I like it". I didn't plan to give him any gift, but after the photo op Fei and I thought why not give this to him. But it was too late to leave the gifts at the registration desk and Creation said no gift during autograph and photo op. We decided, whatever, I'll just ask Misha later. If he's not interested or it's not allowed, I'll just keep it.
Everything was postponed that day. Misha, Jim, Richard and Aldis were doing the autograph together. They were all taking the time to talk with the fans, so the autograph session was going very slowly. But I won't complain about that. I would like to talk with those smart gentlemen. The autograph was supposed to end at 10 pm; but when it's our turn, it's almost 10:30 pm, and we were only the second row of silver ticket. I let them sign the booklet of Season 4 BD. When Misha was signing, I asked him:"So, I heard you're a buddhist." He mumbled:"Sort of." I said:"Coz I am a buddhist." I found that information in IMDB and thus very interested in his experience and practice as a buddhist. He raised his head and asked me:"Oh! Are you? What do you..." I think he was asking me about my following and he couldn't understand my answer, so I just told him it's a following from tibet. And he said:"I once smuggled into tibet." I've heard that story but I always thought it's another dry humor joke. I was very excited to hear him confirm it, "So that's a TRUE story! You've been to China already!" And he answered:"Yes, it's true." (My Chinese minion friends were all very satisfied to hear the confirmation later that night.^^) I just smiled at him:"Good for us!" I meant being a buddhist. He smiled back:"Yes." And then i took out the cardboard and asked him:"Misha, do you want this?" He answered "Sure". I explained to him that i could only give it to him during the autograph because the Creation doesn't accept gift after 1 pm. Misha joked "they're mean" and took it. My friend Fei was behind me and quiet all the time and not until we stood in the line for Jim Beaver, she found both Misha and Richard spelled her name wrong! An employee of Creation gave each of us a sticker to write down our names, and the guests would copy the names with the autograph. Dear Misha wrote "Rei" on her card and Richard just copied his mistake. And Jim found out too. He asked Fei:"Why did they all write 'Rei' while it's 'Fei'?!" We said that maybe they just didn't notice. And Jim asked:"You didn't let them sign again?" Fei and I just looked at each other and shrugged. I think Jim must be calling them "idjit" in his mind. XDDD So Jim signed:"To Fei - I can spell it! - Jim Beaver" And he underlined "can". We thanked him and went back to the left side of the room, sat about 5 meters from Misha and started to admire the profile of Misha's face as two perverts *flush*.
About 5 minutes later Fei said:"Let's ask him to sign again." I asked:"Are you sure? You'll make him feel very very guilty." Fei hesitated for a while and said:"Yeah, I want to do this." But she was too nervous to do anything, it was my job again. I asked a gentleman from Creation if we can let Misha sign again or just correct her name. He was very nice but didn't approve it immediately. But finally he took the card to Misha and asked for us, and Misha was of course very glad to make up for the mistake. He held Fei's hand and apologized gently. He thought for a while and then changed the "Rei" into "Rei is good, but Fei is better" and read it to Fei. Fei's brain stopped working as I expected. She just stood there still, no face. I guess Misha thought she was upset or angry so he held her hand AGAIN (jealous, i'm jealous!!), but Fei couldn't give him any response. It was very very awkward. So I told Misha:"Sorry she passed out." And he again talked to Fei tenderly and apologized:"Sorry, my brain was fried." As Fei remained silent, I said:"She's fried too." Misha smiled at us. It was already 11 pm. I could see Misha was tired. So it's my turn to feel guilty now. Suddenly Fei wanted to say something but couldn't express herself well. Misha was confused and just looked at me. Then I asked Fei in Chinese what she wanted to say. Poor Fei was so nervous that she couldn't even say it in Chinese! I figured she wanted to tell Misha something about Chinese minions, so I told Misha we had a website with thousands of Chinese minions. Misha was very excited and asked me to write down the url of the website. We walked aside trying not to block the autograph line and discussed if we should give him the web address because, you know, all the fanfics and manips in it :P. But the website is totally in Chinese, so whatever, I just wrote down the url (I'm so proud of my memory) and the Chinese name of the website. After I explained the name of the website to Misha, he asked me how we did this, if we followed the twitter. I told him most of us can understand English so we all followed his twitter and we watched SPN online, we wrote fanfics, we also made fanvids for him, esp. for his birthday. He was very glad to hear that. Finally we said goodbye to him. I'm really sorry to the fans behind us. Thank you for letting us have the conversation with Misha.
On our way home (we stayed at my friend's place), suddenly Fei asked me:"Did Misha think I'm angry?" I was like: thank gawd you realized that now! She said her brain was blank back then and all she could think about was "OMG he's real". I totally understand that because that's what I was feeling the next day when I saw Jensen. I told Fei: "I'm a minion now temporarily until I see Jensen tomorrow." (My loyalty!) OK, so much for today. Let me post my photos first.
