YES! I CAN PLAY WHATEVER THE HELL I WANT ON MAH FIDDLE~!
Part logical, part gut, part probably just a little bit lazy. Decided NOT to do grade 8 or ANY other grades music wise.
So yeah.... you could say I've been "set" to do grade 8 since, oh? 3 years ago? Pffft. But playing the same 3 pieces, struggling through music theory, aural, 80 scales and the plain stress of it all doesn't seem worth it just to be able to go "oh yes, I have my grade 8!" in conversations with snotty musicians who I feel I have to prove something to. In a way, the only reason I wanted to do it was entirely superficial. My current teacher has stacks of music all round his house and thinks grades are just a piece of paper. I don't want to waste the last year of teaching I have with him only doing 3 pieces, being stressed. Music is for loving!
I'd much rather spend my last year of having a fab violin teacher exploring music and enjoying playing instead.
