[Inquiry]
HEEL, HITLER
From reports by Reiner Kreutzwald at the German Embassy in Helsinki and German vice-consul Willy Erkelenz, discovered in a German archive last year.  Tor Borg was a Finnish businessman. Translated from the German by Natascha Hoffmeyer.

Mr. Tor Borg made an appearance here today.  He firmly denied having called his dog Hitler. He admitted that his wife of seven years had named the dog Hitler for a short time. This had not been intended as an insult, however. The dog would raise its paw in a way that was similar to the Hitler salute. Borg claimed to have always been German-friendly, studied in Germany,   married a German, and maintained constant and close business relations with German pharmaceutical companies. He also claims to be on the board of a chapter of the German Finnish society.

The statements made by Tor Borg to legation councillor Dr. Kreutzwald generally coincide with the statements Borg made to me. Upon first being questioned, he immediately admitted that the dog had been called Hitler, but over the course of our conversation, he depicted the matter more and more as harmless and laid most of the blame on his wife. For understandable reasons, Borg seeks to place this “episode” at a time before the seizure of power in Germany and has it taking place among his immediate family. This raises doubts, since an innocent thing should have been forgotten in the course of eight years-if new fuel hadn’t been added to the  fire. A witness who wishes to remain anonymou s   reported hearing   and observing that Borg’s dog had responded to being called Hitler and raised its paw in the presence of several other people at the social club. Borg’s emphatic German-friendly attitude is to be taken with a grain of salt. My final decision is: Borg, despite his assertions to the contrary, is not on the up and up. He should receive a sharp warning, which should also make a lasting impression on those close to him and who share his attitudes.
