What if the cast of Smallville were to write their own show? Moved over from the Television Without Pity
Smallville forum threads.
The Dire Situation:
After weathering four years on the WB network, the television show Smallville found itself facing abysmal ratings in its fifth year. Its widely-publicized 100th episode, Reckoning, reached an all-time low for primetime on the network. Revolving around the trials of a teenaged Clark Kent before he became the iconic superhero Superman, the show which had been a modest success in earlier years was now facing cancellation. In an unorthodox move, producers Al Gough and Miles Millar announced that the show would be going on hiatus while it underwent creative tinkering and a change in writing staff. The remainder of the fifth season episodes will return in the fall of 2006. Specific air dates have yet to be released.
Our Intrepid Heroes:
Tom Welling (TW): Practically Perfect in Every Way
Professional, dedicated, hard-working, intelligent, and pretty, Welling isn’t your average male-model-turned-actor. He’s the kind of guy you hate to love, mostly because he happens to be good at what he does. As the lead of Smallville, Welling’s Clark Kent is a young man stumbling his way toward heroism and the occasional fashion faux pas. Welling can be counted on to pull more than his own weight and has a healthy respect for his fellow actors including, inexplicably, Rosenbaum.
Kristin Kreuk (KK): I Wanted to Be a Forensic Scientist
Kreuk tried this acting thing on a lark in high school and stayed once she found out how well it paid the bills. She plays Lana Lang, Clark Kent’s high school sweetheart and star-crossed love. On set, she can be often found with her nose buried in a book. She’s easily annoyed by animal cruelty, gratuitous nude scenes, and people who mistake her for her character.
Michael Rosenbaum (MR): Saturn Award Winner
What exactly is a Saturn Award? Well, to Rosenbaum’s disappointment, it sure isn’t a car. Rosenbaum is the man behind Smallville’s Lex Luthor, the ex-best friend and ruthless future arch-nemesis of Clark Kent. In theory, anyway. In practice, this incarnation of Lex is more likely to induce sympathetic cooing than inspire terror. But Rosenbaum’s determined to change all that. When not contemplating great evil, he can be found pulling pranks on cast and crew alike, worrying about the state of his scalp, or joking about costar Welling’s ass.
Allison Mack (AM): Knits a Mean Tea Cozy
Just because her character, spunky newsgal Chloe Sullivan, isn’t a transplant from the Superman comics doesn’t mean Mack isn’t invested in what’s going to happen to her. Knowledgeable and opinionated, Mack is a vocal presence during the writing process and not one to be underestimated or overlooked. Her astrological sign is Leo and she enjoys shopping with Kreuk in her spare time.
The Sidekicks Supporting Cast
Erica Durance (ED): Blondes Don’t Always Have More Fun
She’s is a relatively new addition to the cast, playing a Lois Lane who lacks a Pulitzer and the hots for a spandexed superhero. But that doesn’t bother easygoing Durance. A bit less Margot Kidder and a bit more Teri Hatcher, Durance’s Lois currently provides some much needed comic relief for the show. But don’t expect it to stay that way for long, as Lois gets more immersed in upcoming storylines and Durance gets to have her say.
John Glover (JG): A Tony Winner Trumps a Saturn
No one can figure out how an actor of Glover’s pedigree ended up on a show that aired on the WB. Glover plays Lionel Luthor, Lex’s magnificent bastard of a father, and can easily be identified as the guy having more fun than all the other chumps in the same scene. Seemingly unapproachable at first glance, Glover is much nicer in person than his roles would suggest. Really.
Annette O’Toole (AoT): The Original Smalltown Sweetheart
She once played Clark’s childhood love Lana in the movie Superman III and now plays his foster mother, Martha Kent, on the show Smallville. A warm vibrant presence on the set, O’Toole brings strength and integrity to the characters she plays. As well as an undeniable physical appeal. Unfortunately, she’s happily married to the talented Michael McKean.
Their Fiendish Foe:
The Goughlar (GR!): Two Heads are Better Than One
A mysterious creature whose name is only spoken in whispers or not at all, it was called to life when two men, Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, struck a Faustian bargain with an ancient eldritch force in order to gain their very own television show. As its proper weekly due, The Goughlar demands virgin maidens, high ratings, and filmable scripts. For more information about this strange entity, check out booberella’s
