[One bedroom whose door is usually shut tight has been in a constant flurry of activity through most of the day; mainly just nameless nurses running in and out, and retrieving fresh blankets and towels, and even a pitcher of water.]

[Once he sees the last nurse has left he enters quietly. At first he doesn't announce his presence to her, just fine with looking over her and the small bundle in her arms. It's already here. Can he still do what he set out to do in the beginning?]

[Had this not been... well, a really fucking long and draining day... Kanda would have probably already been awake and alert.]

[But. Seeing as it's been the kind of day that it's been? She's pretty much still dozing. Can you do it, Lavi? Can you really, really do it?]

[herlastwish]

[He isn't so sure anymore.

Starts to advance over, curiosity getting the better of him. He just wants to see... both of them.]

[lastnightswish]

[There's a small face resting against her chest. Has Lavi's nose and eyes. The rest is all her mother. The newborn stirs slightly, making a very slight indignant sort of sound, and opens one bleary eye up at him.]

[herlastwish]

[He stares back, frowning heavily. What is he supposed to do with it... with it staring like that?

Slowly, for God knows what reason, he reaches out to brush his finger against Aya's cheek.]

[lastnightswish]

[If it means anything, he's still probably too far away that he's probably completely blurry. Regardless, Aya turns her head - as well as she really can, anyway, toward his finger before settling back down to sleep again. Plenty of time to meet daddy later, unless he picks her up.]

[herlastwish]

[Touches her cheek, memorizing the feel under his finger. This is bad. The hand at his side tightens.]

[So tiny and little and... it would be very easy to just pluck her from mama's arms, wouldn't it?]

[Kanda stirs lightly - not really enough to wake up, though - and brings one hand up to rest on her back.]

[herlastwish]

[He's trying to squash that urge right now and it isn't working. Maybe if he does it once he'll be satisfied.

Gonna try that now.]

[lastnightswish]

[It appears that you'll be successful. Kanda stirs very slightly again when the bundle is lifted, but otherwise goes right back to dozing.]

[The newborn too, as she's completely zonked out again, and breathing softly.]

[Carefully cradles her in his arms. He looks back for a chair to sit in and slowly takes a seat.]

[lastnightswish]

[Teeny and tiny. Assuming she somehow managed to worm one hand out of the blankets - or, maybe if Lavi were to unwrap them - he'll see she has hands like her mother. Those might be his ears, but it's still too early to tell. At any rate. Little, and light, and so utterly vulnerable.]

[Kanda, however, seems to register that the weight on her chest isn't there anymore, and she opens her eyes. N-not saying anything yet, though; so tired that it's taking a bit for her to realize which one this is.]

[herlastwish]

[He notes all of this and doesn't know how to feel about it all. Runs a finger through her feather hair, tracing the outline of her ears and chubby face.]

[Looks up at her.] Enjoying the view.
