NAME: Lavi
NICKNAMES: Flame King, Pyro, Rabbit (Kanda's fault; hates this one, Anita is the only one he doesn't mind calling him that, Tyki used to call him that as well), Red, Tiger
BIOGRAPHY: As far back as he can recall Lavi doesn't remember ever having parents or a parental figure that loved him. Raised by a grouchy grandfather who wanted nothing to do with an ill-begotten grandson. Early in his childhood Lavi exhibited the beginnings of becoming a pyromaniac, setting small fires where ever he could with anything flammable. The only things he avoided setting fire to was anything of his grandfather's, didn't want a beating, and animals, no point in being mean to them as the world is cruel enough. This 'bad habit' of his kept Lavi from having very many friends in his childhood; it was more common for him to have members of a group who would turn around and betray each other if it meant that they could escape a punishment or blame for some wrong deed. From this Lavi decided to trust only himself and look out for himself, there was nothing in him at the time that even hinted at teamwork being a possibility.
When he entered high school Lavi's grandfather decided it was time to pass down his own son's Air Treks. The surprisingly nimble old man taught Lavi everything he knew about the ATs, how to use them, care for them, and even about the battles. It seemed that he knew that Lavi would eventually find his way to them and any forewarning from someone who knew what could happen in them might have some impact. Lavi learned quickly, eagerly, finally having something to put his frustrations into besides setting fire to things. A brilliant rider bursting out onto the scene many teams scrambled to recruit him yet no one was successful in this endeavor.
Yes he was brilliant but Lavi had no concept of teamwork, nor did he care for teammates. Choosing not to trust anyone for there was always the threat of constant backstabbing and ruthless undermining from his days in middle school, he rode alone. And after a time no one wanted him in their teams, not because he wasn't strong because he was but because Lavi had a strange passion for setting just the ends of uniforms on fire, causing chaos wherever he rode past. Joining no one the pyro-rider went on just enjoying being able to fly as high and as far as he wanted. One day being bored as he usually got Lavi flew off to battlefield in the mountains, stumbling upon a battle for the Flame Road. Silly though to fight for something and yet not use it to keep it. With spectators wrapped up in the fight he saw no reason not to take the Regalia though at the time he didn't know what they were other than a cool set of wheels.
Only when he started putting them on his own ATs did his grandfather notice and tell him about the Regalia. He was thrilled of course at finding something that was so him and apparently so were the Regalia as they accepted him as their rider. Lavi started learning more complex moves to compliment and activate his Regalia's special attacks but seemed content to just roam around on the imaginary flames. Then he caught the notice of Kanda, another King and a classmate, they duked it out but it came to a draw; had the fight continued on Lavi was most likely the one to lose as he had yet to learn everything about his new wheels. That and he had to recover from his own foolishness that caused him to lose an eye to severe burns, his own fault but it didn't make him cautious about fire at all. Months of training turned into years and before he knew it he had defeated many riders at the dawn of his senior year of high school.
Then Allen and his crew, The Exorcists, came along, laying their emblem on the line in favor of Lavi joining them. He didn't exactly lose this fight but during the tides of battle he saw the sky that the younger boy was fighting for and decided it might be fun to stick around...at least for a while. Eventually Kanda joined them, much to his own amusement and he never let his year-mate get too far from everyone else.
A bittersweet moment when Tyki joined their team, the man provided much that they needed especially being a partner to Lavi. His combination of time with the pyro's Flame Road made the duo almost un-defeatable. It was almost inevitable that Tyki betrayed them by trying to steal Lavi's Regalia, something Lavi had apparently stolen from Noahs years ago. The fight for the Regalia between himself and Tyki left the confident pyro critically injured, allowing the older man to step off with the precious wheels. Thankfully Kanda halted that messy business, shredding one of the older man's limbs. Lavi never really got over that betrayal even though he knew he should have been expecting it. Troubled by how easily he was defeated Lavi started training, trying to master the same moves that his former partner had used to compliment him so well. Mastering a bit of Time himself Lavi moves swiftly though not as quick as the original, it is part of his Road but not. He polished his Road into something harder and stronger so he wouldn't have to rely on someone ever again. Teamwork still comes hard to him but he's getting better at it.
Lavi's mother was a first generation
Gravity Child who married a normal Storm Rider of considerable skill and love for the sky, something she didn't have herself. Bookman, Lavi's grandfather and his father's father, disapproved of the match but the pair eloped. A few years later they had Lavi, a second generation who was able to pull up the special pupil in his right eye; the very same eye that he lost in his battle with Kanda. Lavi still has the skills, but has no clue what kind of special powers his genes carry, and neither does anyone else. Except possibly the shark who might have glimpsed it before it was burned out. [TBC]
AGE: 19 [08/10]
HEIGHT: 5'9"
WEIGHT: 150lbs
BODY TYPE: Wiry and agile Lavi's body can handle the beatings he puts it under on a daily basis. He may seem not all that strong but he has muscles of considerable strength, they're just not big guns. His flexibility has come out mostly to avoid attacks from Kanda.
CLOTHING STYLE: The bottoms of his jeans are constantly shredded and ripped, always in a matter of seconds if they happen to be new ones. The boot-cut denim always seems to be a bit singed at the bottoms as well, part of his flaming appeal. His shirts always seem to revolve around bands, tight and short-sleeved. Lavi's only coat, if he wears one (rarely), is a green USMC coat that seems to be from decades ago, hiding his fingerless gloves. He'll almost always have a black headband on to pull back his hair. When not wearing his ATs, which he usually has strapped and slung over his shoulder, Lavi wears boots to protect his ankles with good traction.
SPEAKING STYLE: He'll dance around most issues if he doesn't want to answer the question asked but most of the time Lavi will tell you what it is is on his mind. He rarely indulges in mind games, they leave a bad taste in his mouth, he'd rather say it and get it over and done with.
GENERAL DEMEANOR: Unless he knows you the general aura he gives off is one of tolerance, he doesn't like the threat hanging overhead of being betrayed. If he gets bored or angry one would be wise to watch out as the lighter that he's always carrying might just come out. If it's a "friend" (read as teammate) he'll bother them constantly as a way to entertain himself.
CAREER: The King of the Flame Road, an Storm Rider for The Exorcists. And a high-school student of average grades though if he applied himself to his studies he could easily take first.
PREJUDICES: Lavi hates betrayal in any form, any kind of lie except for the white ones, secret agendas and of course anyone who gets in the way of him flying. Doesn't really care for those who call ATs "skates", demeaning the higher heights that the riders take to.
BEST QUALITIES: Though he rarely exhibits the trait Lavi is pretty loyal to those who treat him good with no hints towards dropping him. He'll do anything to protect his team but still watches his own back to ward off anything else. A quick learner he doesn't have to see a trick but once before he's got it completely memorized. Learning how to do it himself still takes time and practice. Always on time and always clean, it's the way he was raised and hell if he isn't because here comes his grandfather's punishment.
WORST QUALITIES: He's always looking out for himself even when working in a team, not that he's not looking out for the team as well. He's too used to being turned on by those he trusts and its made him a bit paranoid. Lavi gets angry rather quickly, one can blame it on his hair if they like, but unlike many redheads who vent rather loudly Lavi turns his anger inward. He'll run off to be alone, solitude and ignoring everyone are his ways to deal with it all. When he's in this condition or one of intense training Lavi will also ignore to take care of his body's nutritional needs. He won't eat or drink until his pouting session is over and done with.
WEAKNESSES: Something stated over and over again, the fear that's always with him, betrayal and abandonment. It cripples him in ways he hasn't realized just yet, restraining him from fully extending his wings. The real friends he has finally found, he doesn't want to lose them or have them hurt and this new feeling also makes him confused and weak.
HOBBIES: Air Treck, dancing (flexibility), training, learning guitar, fire tricks.
TALENTS: Pretty good with a lot of flame tricks, good with fire control in general. Most likely this comes from years of playing with fire, not the smartest thing for a young child to do but it was a way to express himself until he found ATs. Lavi also enjoys playing the guitar even though he's still learning it, most of the time he says it's so he can tune his own Regalia but secretly he admires those who can play and wishes to be one of those.
Mostly because of Gramps Lavi knows several languages though he hardly uses them, listed in order of fluency: Japanese, English, French, Korean, Mandarin, Cantonese, German, Russian, Spanish, Indonesian.
And similar to his persona in D.Gray-Man Lavi can remember anything he's seen/read although he may not immediately recall it or know how to use it.
