and we won't get it back now, baby

Have you all see Sebastian Stan in the I'm Dying Up Here trailer? I know most people went to the "Winter Soldier in the 70s place," but me, after a moment of "I AM THE LIZARD KING," I went right to the "Sirius Black in the 70s place," even though SebStan is now too old to play young Sirius (though just the right age to play PoA era Sirius*) even if he could manage the accent.

*As much as Rickman was perfect as Snape, his casting meant that all the Marauder-era adults were cast too old for their roles and someday when someone redoes the HP series, I hope they rectify that.

What I'm reading Wednesday:

What I've just finished
Do You Want to Start a Scandal by Tessa Dare, which I enjoyed a lot, though the fact that Piers set the fire instead of it being Frances, as I suspected, made me roll my eyes really hard.

Queenpin by Megan Abbott, which I recommend highly if you like hardboiled noir but with lady protagonists. I will let you know upfront, though, so you are not disappointed like I was: there are no lesbians in this book. I thought the young unnamed protagonist who gets drawn into the seedy underworld was going to have her romantic flailing be about the titular queenpin, but no. There's a loser she falls for and he's a dude instead of a lady.(and to add personal insult to injury, his name is Vic. Bah.) So I knocked a star off and only gave it four stars for lack of lesbians. But otherwise, it's good stuff!

What I'm reading now
Song of Spider-Man: The Inside Story of the Most Controversial Musical in Broadway History by Glen Berger, which I am expecting to be entertaining and so far it is.

What I'm reading next

January talking meme, day 11:
grimorie asked, Do you think there's any similarity between Ahsoka Tano and Korra?
They're both very powerful young women whose first instinct is to fight their way out of a situation rather than use more diplomatic measures, at least when we first meet them. They're both raised by organizations that shelter them and don't tell them exactly the things they'll need to know once they're out of that protected environment, though Korra at least got to keep her parents with her (otoh, she doesn't seem to have any friends except Naga until she meets Mako and Bolin, while Ahsoka at least has Barriss at first).

They're both teenagers when they end up in situations that they are much too young to manage well - i.e., being at war, being the Avatar. (I mean, Aang was much too young as well, but Aang was a very different personality from Korra, and Bryke have talked about how Korra was thrown into a situation that Aang would have handled more easily, while Aang's dilemma was more suited to Korra's personality, at least on the surface.)

And they're both brash and overconfident when they start out, and learn to be humble through their experiences, and also how to be more diplomatic and thoughtful in dealing with both opponents and friends. They both suffer from PTSD and the aftermath of personal betrayal, though Korra has to undergo more of a physical recovery. They both have mentors they come to love, though Korra clearly wins in the end on that one, since Tenzin is probably not going to disappear on her (I mean, it probably helps that Tenzin is the first of a resurgence of a group that was wiped out via genocide, while Obi-Wan is the [second to] last of a group that was wiped out by genocide, so Obi-Wan had good reason to go into hiding, but still, his lack of support for her during The Wrong Jedi arc bugs me. Ahem.) or betray and try to murder her and everything she holds dear.

So I would say yes, there are some similarities between them!

(I keep hoping someone writes the crossover! I would accept the simplest crossover, i.e., Iroh and Obi-Wan taking tea together in the Spirit World, but surely someone can come up with something more interesting? Though the first person who says Kylo Ren is like Zuko gets throat-punched through the internet, because no.)
