but I'm a cannonball to a house on fire

Brooklyn Nine Nine
Gina becoming a Boyle cousin was pretty hilarious. She basically played herself while Charles stood back and watched. Otoh, Aruba >>>>> a tent in Iowa. IJS.

Terry being a huge fantasy fan was cute, though I had to watch through my fingers occasionally, more because I was worried about embarrassment happening than because it actually did. (Though somehow I didn't feel the same way about Jake pantsing various 90s-era Knicks.)

The cold open was great, because they've definitely reached the point with Holt where he would DO that instead of yelling at them all for being unprofessional.

Was this aired out of order, though? Because they were hammering Holt=Dad for Amy pretty hard which felt a little weird after meeting her actual dad.

The Flash: Invasion!
I think it's the exclamation point that is endearing this to me. Let's just say that I love reading and writing fanfic crossovers, and I love the idea of shared universes in movies and TV, but have not really loved most of the comics EVENTS I've tried to read. But while the same problems crop up on tv shows - I'm not watching or not current on all of them, it interrupts any ongoing storylines, etc. etc. - just seeing all of them together onscreen was a lot of fun.

I know I shouldn't but I still do ship Barry/Felicity and Barry/Kara (especially if Mon-El is the other choice), and Felicity's "how could you stay mad at Barry?" was so cute, but then, Cisco does have a point. Though I think it's terrible timing that his being mad at Barry coincides with his meeting Kara, because they should get to be way more geeky together.

Oliver! I am not caught up on this season of Arrow, but I do love how Amell plays him, especially when he's mentoring other heroes (especially when there's no Batman to take that role), and he was great here - standing up for Barry despite being the better choice to be team leader (is this middle school? or a management retreat?) and then turning around berating him for getting them into the shit with aliens when they were alone.

I also really liked that Lyla was right there - of course ARGUS would be involved - and now I really want the Lyla, J'onn, and Alex team up we're never going to get.

Barry, I can't even with you sometimes. But at least you're owning up to your mistakes and hopefully will try not to fix them with yet more time travel.

Wally! I hate the writing for Iris here. She was kept out of Team Flash "for her own good" for a whole season! and was righteously angry about it! And now she turns around and tries to do the same to Wally, when he clearly isn't any safer not using his powers/not being on Team Flash. Keep training him, obviously, but trying to keep him out of the fight just ends up with what we got last night, which is him teaming up with HR and that can't end well for anybody.

Tonight looks like it's going to be Arrow's greatest most miserable hits, so that should be fun.

And, since it's the end up the month, the usual housekeeping items:

November 2016 recs update:

unfitforsociety has been updated for November 2016 with 13 recs in 7 fandoms:

* 5 Star Wars
* 3 Avengers
* 2 Batman
* 1 Check, Please!, 1 Stranger Things, and 1 Leverage/Rivers of London crossover

And the November 2016 writing roundup:

what spring does with the cherry trees (@ AO3)
Star Wars; Anakin/Ahsoka; adult; 3510 words
When Ahsoka's heat suppressant wears off while they're on a long trip through hyperspace, Anakin lends a helping hand. Among other things.

I have to admit to being a little surprised at just how little (complete) Anakin/Ahsoka there is, at least that I've found. I mean, I get all the reasons it's a difficult sell, but it's fandom. Anyway, I'm glad to have contributed something as tropey as this (heat fic! I mean, it's not canonical, but at least it's a character who quite possibly could have a heat cycle?) even if it is not most people's cup of tea. It was something I wanted, and so I wrote it, since no one else was going to.

There's a post going around tumblr about how you should write what you want to regardless of fandom trends, and for the most part I agree with that and there were also people talking about No Shame November, where they would write self-indulgent stuff/the stuff they really wanted to, and I was just like, man, that is my modus operandi 99% of the time (the 1% is when I'm writing for an exchange and thus to someone else's specs). Why write a thing if it isn't going to make you happy? Writing is too frustrating a hobby for me to do it if I don't get to enjoy the results when all the misery is over.

I really hoped to have the road trip story done, but it's at 16K and I think there's probably at least another 5K to go? Though at least some of that will be cute Finn/Rey makeouts. I mean, I finally got them to kiss so, yeah. We'll see how it goes, though work is eating my brain right now.
