the whole what-if thing that goes on

Ah, there's nothing better than when you suddenly realize how to fix a problem in a story. Such a great feeling. Also awesome? Figuring out how to make a crossover work. (Admittedly a crossover that will only be interesting to three people once the pairing is revealed, but still. I love me a good crossover.)

Writing is a terrible hobby, but when it works, it's the best hobby ever.

Star Wars Rebels: Hera's Heroes
I feel like we needed to know way more about Hera's mom and Hera's relationship with her for this episode to actually work emotionally. I don't think we even know her name! Hera is my favorite (regular) character on this show, and I was still like, "I don't believe she would do this" and she even brought up that it was selfish, so they were aware of the problem! Lampshading it doesn't make it go away! (I can say that as someone who is guilty of that behavior fairly often in my own writing *cough*)

It did give Thrawn a chance to shine, though so that was neat. As terrible as the Empire is, I feel like they need to have more than Vader be competent, and most of the villains we've seen previously were not particularly. Between Pryce and Thrawn, though, we're getting there. (I don't think Maul counts because he's not aligned with the Empire? I mean, he's good at what he does but what he does is sow chaos and talk too much, so.)

Anyway, bring on the Sabine/Mandalore episode! That is what I want to see now!

In other Star Wars news, Doctor Aphra is getting her own series, also by Kieron Gillen! (Note: there are spoilers for Darth Vader 25 at that link, if you haven't read it yet but are planning to.) Could be fun! I definitely recommend Darth Vader. It's a mostly excellent comic with a little convoluted plotting in the middle, but it does a lot of interesting stuff with Vader.
