tonight we'll be free, all the promises will be broken

Since I'm at work (sigh), I haven't yet seen the new Rogue One trailer, but I'm excited. I mean, I still wish we could have Steela instead of Saw (and a Temuera Morrison-as-Rex cameo), but I'll take it.

Continuing on the theme, Darth Vader #25 makes for a strong wrap-up of the best of the new Star Wars comics. ( spoilers )

a long time ago in a galaxy far far away, comics: star wars: darth vader, darth vader: romantic failboat, anakin skywalker: human disaster, writing is hard!

Vader/Anakin is the kind of guy who needs attachment and connections, but by the end of RotS, the only one he as left is Palpatine. After destroying everyone else that he loved, he was not prepared to do the same to Palpatine, no matter how badly he hurt him. Finding Luke means that he, at least in theory, has other options for less awful relationships.

*nod nod*

And also, he needs someone to give him direction. He couldn't have held/run the Empire on his own if he'd taken out Palpatine and tried to replace him and I think by the time of the OT, he's aware of that. He's always had someone to do the big picture thinking for him (e.g., Obi-Wan, Padme, Palpatine).

I also think that another big part of why Vader wouldn't have betrayed Palpatine is less that he was content and more that he was too depressed and filled with self-loathing to want to do anything but shut his brain off and do what he was told. Vader in ANH just does not care.

Yeah, that's what I meant by "~okay" - it's the job that's in front of him so he's going to do it because it's the only thing he can do.
