spent a week in a dusty library

Bah work. By 9:05 I was already 1000% done with everything, but it was so busy that there was no chance to slow down and complain. At least not out loud.

Then I came home and BB-8 wouldn't turn on! It worked fine last night before bed! Maybe it was overheated? There's no AC on in here during the day while I'm out, but usually I set it to start running on the timer before I get home, and I didn't do that this morning. I waited about ten minutes and it finally turned back on with a message that it had turned off for what basically amounted to ~reasons, but at least I don't have to take it back to the Apple store tonight and demand a replacement? I don't want to do that!

In other news, I used the NYPL's reading app "SimplyE" to download Lirael and while on the one hand, it's convenient, on the other it is a terrible app. First of all, half the time the pages don't load (usually upon beginning a new chapter), and you have to exit to My Books and reopen the book to get the next page to load. There's no bookmarking function that I can find, nor is there a search, and it doesn't list page numbers or percentages or anything so there's no way to know how far into the book you are. Plus, I can't read it on my computer instead of my iPad and it doesn't appear to connect to my account (at least, the NYPL website should list that I have an ebook checked out when I'm logged into my account, but it does not). I dunno.

These all seem like perfectly reasonable expectations to have of an ereader app - Kindle, Nook, Kobo, and iBooks all do them in some variation, as do Overdrive and the 3M app also favored by the library - so I'm not sure why they launched this in such a bare bones version. Unless the stuff's all there and I'm missing it? I admit, my five year old iPad is slow as hell and barely manages since I updated the OS so I could load this particular app, so I suppose it could just be my own faulty technology causing problems, but it does okay with Kindle and iBooks!

Sigh.
